Can I ask a prof for a letter of rec if we don't have a strong relationship?

So when I had taken the class, it was just a elective, and I didn't make much effort to participate in class (big lecture hall) or build a relationship with the professor outside of class. I want to ask the professor to write me a letter of rec for a summer program, and the topic of the summer program is directly relevant to the class I took with him. I got an A in his class and attended all the lectures.

If I make an appointment with him and just introduce myself and give him some background info on myself and why I want to be in the program, would it possible that I could get a letter of rec for this summer program that I want to participate in?

Go for it. Many profs can’t differentiate one student from another. Your A will go a long way along with a resume.

However, lesson learned here - cultuvate professional relationships whenever possible bc u never know.
