can I ask a question?

. I'm going to apply for transfering to UCLA or UCB this year, but by now I just have 4 classes left ( both my major classes and GE classes ) . So I took 3 classes this fall, and prepare to take the last 1 class in next Spring. But the counselor told me that if I just take 1 class in the last semester (next spring) , it will have some disadvantage for me to tansfer .Even worse, maybe UCLA or UCB will not accept me any more . But she is not so sure about that , and she let me to ask some more professional people
Can you guys give me some information about that ? If it is true, what is the minimum units I must take in spring?

As long as you have 60 units done by the end of spring along with GE/major requirements done, it does not matter how many classes/units you take next semester. Your counselor is wrong. Only 70 can transfer anyway lol.

"Only 70 can transfer anyway " what does that mean ???

Only 70 units will count toward your graduation requirements when you eventually transfer. You can take however many units in CCC (100+), but only 70 will count for graduation credit.

Let’s say you’ve taken 100 units though. That’s not a problem either because those extra units will count for subject credit i.e. prereqs fulfilled, GE’s completed, etc. Like I said, though, you’ll need another 50 at your eventual UC.

On a similar note, is there a unit requirement for the semesters prior to transfer for TAG agreements? I remember reading about such requirements, but they may have been phased out in the new agreements as I don’t see anything listed.

I thought you needed 15cr in the fall and 15cr in the spring to be eligible for TAG, but now a counselor has told me that I don’t need that. Anyone have knowledge to share prz?

I have finished 60 units by now , and I would like to take 10 more units (as you said “Only 70 units will count toward your graduation requirements” ) . For the 10 more units that will count, can I take any courses I like ? Or I have to follow the UCLA graduation requirements? If so, how can I know what courses are required by UCLA to graduate?

@ leonshan: Good question. For your last 10 units, you should finish any remaining prereqs for your major. If you have all those complete, then you have a few options.

My first recommendation: Take more courses in your major that aren’t prereqs. This is really good because:

1) It shows demonstrated interest in the major…thus it could only improve ur chances. I took 8 psych classes at my CCC…only 2 or 3 of them were prereqs.

2) You’ll get more experience into your major and it will better prepare you for UC level coursework.

Another option would be to fulfill any other prereqs if you’re considering a double major. This way you could get a jump-start on double majoring.

As for required UCLA courses, I don’t think you can really do much about that. You can’t do any upper division work just yet, and you can’t take any particular specifics (example: I know UCB requires an American History or Gov requirement done on campus). Basically, u can’t fulfill any UCLA-specific courses since u cant take them yet.

@ Zeitgeist: I’m sure you -need- 30 units done by the end of summer to be eligible for TAG. You don’t have to do 15 and then 15 exactly. Divide it up however you see fit, but you must have 30 of them done.

Someone correct me if that has changed since last year.

^You’re right, but sorry I wasn’t clear on my question.

I’ve submitted my TAG with plenty of units. I’m wondering if this final year in CC, I need to take a full load or any certain number of units each semester. I thought that 15+ units were required in fall and 15 in spring before transfer, maybe to simulate the rigor of a UC. However, I don’t see this noted on the TAG agreements. Any clue?

Thanks for your explanation for me , you are so nice. lol
I have one more question , I have finished all the GE courses on the IGETC , do i still need to take any GE courses in UCLA or UCB ? Or I just need to learn my major courses after transfer.

I saw somewhere on here that called UCSD and they said it doesn’t matter for TAG. I would think that you don’t need to be enrolled in 15, but just be a full time student, which is 12, right? If the UCs really cared about it, it would be posted somewhere on the TAG website. I can’t TAG anywhere so you should just call the schools themselves.

@ leonshan: You’re welcome! Thank u! Berkeley has a couple mandatory requirements like the “American Cultures Requirement” and “American History” or something like that. Both of those you’ll have to complete on campus to graduate. Aside from that, there isn’t any other GE you’ll need to worry about.

Pending you have your prereqs done, you’ll get to head straight into upper division coursework at Berkeley, finish up your major, and then once that’s done, you can take whatever you want :). You could always write an Honors Thesis too…High Honors get published in the UCB library or you could do independent research with professors.

@ Zeitgeist: You can take however many units this fall/spring semester as you want. You could take 3. Yeah, that would look a bit strange, but as long as you explain it in your app (there’s an “Additional Comments” section beneath the personal statements), they’ll understand where you’re coming from. It’s a non-issue as long as you have 60 units and explain why you’re doing less this next semester…i.e. working, family, travel, whatever.

Huh…altthough according to that link, it says you have to be full-time. Honestly I’ve never heard of that…and I know a fairly decent amount about these things.

Why don’t you call those UC’s and have them clarify your question.

I have taken American history in my college , so do i still need to take “American Cultures Requirement” and “American History” in UCB?

@ leonshan: Hmmm I’m not 100%…but I’m pretty sure you do. The American Cultures one I am certain must be done at UCB.

^Thanks, I will definitely give these guys a call! Although I think you’re right in saying that the requirement is just 12 units at the most. I’ll post the results if I find anything concrete.

Thanks, very much.
So,does UCB have any other requirement except “American Cultures Requirement” and “American History” ??

Ive been accepted to both Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University and i want to study Graphic design. Which school has a better graphic design program? What are you opinions of the schools?

Since this forum pertains to transfer to California schools only, it is unlikely anyone on this forum is very knowledgeable about colleges in Virginia. You might see if there is a forum for Virginia colleges and universities or go to the “Majors” forum and see if you can find sites relating to graphic design and pose your question there where there might be people with knowledge of these two schools and their graphic design programs.

so theres this guy in school that all the girls like. I’m, being truthful, am one of the hottest girls in school, so i was like “na, i don’t like him, i’m not like every other girl that falls for him, his just a cocky pretty boy.” But now i got into English with him and he started to talk to me in school and talk to me on Facebook, so i talked to him back, now we end up talking for hours! i even gave him my phone # and he promised to sing to me. We have a bunch of things in common and he is just so…amazing. But i hate him! I can’t get him out of my mind! and i told myself that i would not like him, but now i find myself going on Facebook to see if he is online every 5 minutes. To top it all off he has a girl friend but he does some crazy flirting with me. I don’t know what to do and i don’t want to like him but can’t find myself to not, its like i’m fighting with my feelings.
