So what do you guys think?

You should really have thought about taking the SAT again (I’m assuming you already applied?). Also, your AP scores shouldn’t be 3’s, thats really shows you didn’t put any effort into the classes. I mean, I’ve seen kids with WAY better EC’s not get in, so good luck :/

I got in with a 3 in AP Gov…

i would say BEST OF LUCK ;)

I think my test scores are a lil bit low though, and I think i’m missing a stellar award in science or math in my EC’s as well.

Good luck, MIT is hard. Your in the top half of kids who apply definately, I would almost venture to say the top 1/4. Physics, reading, and writting SATs will likely hurt you, but you have some really good ECs. I still don’t understand how you can have a 6.5 weighted GPA, but ok, that’s pretty good. Those 3s on the AP exams may hurt you. I kind of pointed out the negatives a lot but your chances look pretty good. Luckily for you, your also hispanic (I wish I wasn’t white) so they pull from a much smaller pool in your case. Overall I would say you have about a 55-65% chance of admission, which is good for MIT. Good luck to you.

it’s really hard to chance you for MIT because there are numerous factors taken into account. I can say though that you are competitive for admissions.

Just some notes:

-Your weighted GPA is not going to be a factor at all; it just screams ridiculous grade inflation. What they will consider is your regular GPA (which is fine).

-AP Exams aren’t that big of a factor. Don’t worry about them.

-Your ECs seem impressive when listed, but please tell us which ones you plan(ned) to list as your top 5, since only those counts. Awards can be counted separately. These 5 ECs are the ones that MIT will see and care about. If you are able to communicate legitimate and intense passion for something (could be an EC), then you have a significantly higher chance of getting in. Remember, character is MIT’s top trait they look for.

-The Hispanic pool may be smaller, but it isn’t THAT small considering where you come from. This may or may not factor in to the final decision (I imagine it does).

Don’t let these people get your hopes up, kid. At least you’ll get to still be in Miami, club capital of USA for college :p

lol whats the weighted out of, like 7? I swear, we’ll see 10+ weighted gpas by the time our kids are doing this.

your sat scores aren’t really up to par, and you don’t have any attention getting awards. That said, you still have a shot at getting in if your essays were good, and MIT gives race enough consideration.

btw
this is my friend, I was being overly critical as a joke to him, haha

I talked with an addcom from MIT and she said they only care that your SATs (not sure about IIs) are above 650. Though I’m sure that’s not entirely true (take a look at the middle percentile – for math they don’t even approch), it can give you something to grasp at! Anyway, good luck!

The SAT grades are fine… I don’t see where the problem is. Especially since he performed so well on SAT II’s, I don’t think the 600’s in the CR and W would hurt him very much. He’s definitely in the running, but as always, no guarantees with anything.

you seem like you have a good chance good luck:)

1 no one cares about the writing SAT. MIT adcoms have said they don’t care.

2 690 is respectable on the CR.

3 Your physics SATII isn’t great, but then I saw that you were not even halfway through AP physics when you took it.

You’ve done a good job making yourself competitive for admissions. Most admitted kids probably have a profile like yours–rocked SATI/IIs, top student in high school, decent performance in some math/science competitions. But also there are a lot of people they don’t take with that profile, too.
