I’ve always wanted to be a biologist, probably going into microbiology or genetics, and I love AP Bio. However I’m not a huge fan of Chem, I’ll probably have a B or B+ for the year in honors chemistry. So, can I be a bio major? I don’t hate Chem and I understand it, I just don’t love it,. I might take AP Chem next year because everyone says that teacher is much better but for right now I don’t really enjoy Chem.
I am a Microbiology major and my degree required 3 1/2 years of Chemistry: General Chem, Organic Chem, BioChem, Quantitative Analysis and I added 1 quarter of Physical Chem to get my minor. You do not have to love Chemistry, just realize you may be taken many Chemistry classes depending upon your major. I suggest you look at the degree requirements at several colleges of interest so see what type of Chemistry classes are required.
Bio major here. There are really two forms of chemistry any biology major has to take:
Gen chem which is basically what you have in high school and Organic which is totally different.
My advice having been in your place would be not to take AP Chem. The AP exam is notoriously difficult, if you’re a B student you won’t get a 4/5. It’s better to just take the regular version.
