Hello, I'm new here and my names Yury. I currently go to the University of Pittsburgh main campus and take honors/business courses. I don't really have any EC's but I'm looking to get an internship and volunteering for an executive at a local hospital. Also, I've lived in 9 different places including 5 countries so I assume that would help as well as my plethora of many interests including music and intramural sports.

My SAT Scores:
Math: 650
Writing:640
Critical Reading: 630
Current Class/Estimated Grade(medium case scenario):
Elementary Russian (5 credits):B/B+
Piano (3 credit): A
Intro to Psychology (3 credit): B+/A-
Microeconomics Honors (3 credit): B
I am an "international student" and i mean this as in I have a Canadian citizenship but have lived in the US for approximately 8 years. I'm a freshman and am wondering if I'd be accepted to the following schools as a transfer student after my freshman year:
NYU Stern
CMU Tepper
Columbia Business school

I know the list is short and may possibly all be reach schools, hence why I'm asking on this site I luckily stumbled upon. If anyone has any other schools I should look at I'd appreciate it.

Well, yes, they are probably all reaches. That may be appropriate if staying at Pitt is an acceptable option for you as your safety. That would certainly be logical. If you absolutely don't want to stay there, you should look for schools which appeal but that have transfer acceptance rates of 40% at minimum (which you can find using collegeboard.com) and where your SATs are in the top25% of the school's range.

I don't happen to know much about transfers to business schools, but others may comment on these particular schools for you.

A key thing to maximize your chances of transfer success is to have good recs from one or two profs. For what you want, your Econ prof would be the best one. See if you can't work hard to get an A in that course, work really hard if necessary, and get to know the prof. If you don't already have a relationship, I suggest starting by going to office hours and saying that your interest is in business and econ and you would like to know how to improve your performance in that class.

thanks for the advice/reply jmmom, as for lostincode can you explain why exactly? My current approximate GPA is around a 3.5, and you're telling me that's too low for even NYU?

I know, I didn't mean transferring from another major at NYU since it specifically doesn't allow that on the application. But what do you guys think I could/should do to increase my chances? volunteer? intern? or both? And probably some solid letters of recommendation I assume

yeah, so any tips? I know it's a fairly long ****, but I'm a pretty diversified person by what I've stated in my opinion. Anything i could possibly do to raise my chances?

express alot of interest, if you have any unique stories or amazing things about the way you grew up make sure to incorporate them into your application

I am sorry Yury, let me get this straight, you have a Canadian Citizenship, that means you were either born in Canada or You were in Canada for over 3 years. That added on to over 8 years in USA, that's about 8-11years in an english speaking country.
And you scored less than 700 in both writing AND CR and you want to go to CMU, NYU or Columbia?
Your chances are really slim no matter how many countries you have been to. I hope you have something special backing you up, like a nobel peace prize or some major national or international award.

I took your post seriously until i read this:
research more :) and good luck my fellow canadian
