For my elective for upcoming junior year, I chose honors accounting. Not because I have a passion for the subject or anything, just because the course offers a grading curve that would increase my average substantially. My school only offers two honors elective courses: hon. accounting and hon. business. I got a call recently from my counselor explaining how I could not accomodate the hon. accouonting or hon. business in my schedule because they were held during the same time as one of my other important courses.. I also wanted either AP Bio or AP chem, but the same problem hindered my efforts to take the hardest courses possible... Does this ruin my chances to get into a prestigious college completely, or do i have a chance to redeem myself by accomplishing some other arduous endeavor? Should I take the AP Bio exam without taking the course? Or ....Hey, can i sue the school for ruining my life?

Also, would schools I'm applying to be impressed if i got a 5 on both the ap bio and ap chem tests without even takign those classes in high school? would they think of me as a motivated student?

bumpity bumpity bump, the mouse ran up the clock etc...

Sure... go for it.

:)

Is there no way at all to alter your whole schedule to accomodate more of what you want? Tell your counselor and make sure they know how important a difficult course load is to you, break down crying if necessary.

If not, definitely look into independent study.

There was a problem this year with my schedule and I initially couldn't get into my math class. However, after talking with my counselor, I dropped one of my electives (newspaper) that was interfering and will just do more work for it outside of school, everything worked out.

It happened all the time at my high school. I couldnt take a certain class b/c of conflicting times. Dont worry about it...take it your senior year. And most colleges wont even see your ap score. You may also wanna check with your school about ap tests. Over here if you dont take the class, you cant take the test, or if the school doesnt offer the test. I seriously doubt a scheduling conflict will ruin you life or chances at colleges

Thats lame, I think you should switch into a school that offers more. Not being able to take 4 classes because they don't fit into your schedule is REDICULOUS! Sure, colleges will look at you as a motivated student if you do indep. study and get 5's but unless you have really great work ethic, it might be a good idea to switch schools. That's definitely the route I would take;; college is way too important for me to fool around.

damn you kids take stuff too seriously...even with college you should be somewhat 'lax...just roll with it

scheduling conflicts arise at pretty much every school...not much getting away from it

yeah but 4 classes!? thats lame. i would be ****ed.

I'm not reading what you wrote.

Just from the title of the thread I say no.

Think about what you name the titles.

depends...4 class block schedule...or 4 classes throughout the year....or even A/B scheduling

doesnt matter;; its still 4 classes lost.

FerstAmendment,...i wish i could just be mellow about this matter..but why would i take so many aps during senior year when colleges wont evean see them.....MY LIFE IS SO TURBULENT>>!!

Just ask your counselor to mention briefly in his rec that you couldn't take the most rigorous schedule that you wanted to. Colleges will not penalize you for this.

Also, don't waste your time taking independent study unless you are truly interested in the subject. College admissions gives very little attention to AP grades and independent study classes in general.

Colleges do see your senior year classes...they also see a list of courses offered at your school, it in something called a school report sent out with your transcript. So you dont get penalized for taking less ap's or honors. I dont know how many periods you all have in a day but every school around here only has 4
