Ok, so I'm kinda in a bind. I'm a transfer student and I got my acceptance really late and I'm no longer planning on staying on campus (I'm sure there is no space anyways), but I signed the online agreement for the on-campus housing which includes the meal plan. But I am now going to be living off campus. Am I forced to pay this now? Or can I get out of it before school starts?

OR will they not charge me if I am not officially assigned to an on-campus housing location?

I'm already broke and my parents will kill me if they have to pay thousands for this. lol.

So I would appreciate any advice at this point since time is running close. Thanks!

Yes, you can petition for a release from your on-campus housing and meal plan. What you need to do is log on to MyDRL.

To do that, go here: https://mydrl.umd.edu/

Login w/ UID and password

Once logged in, look at the box on the right labelled “Housing Forms and Related Links”

There should be something that says “Fall 2012 Petition for Release from Residence Halls / Dining Services Agreement”

Click that, then click continue.

It should tell you what you need to do next. From what I read, there will be a fee for cancelling your housing agreement. The longer you wait, the higher the fee. I’m not sure if there is a canceling fee for you meal plan though. I wouldn’t think there is.

I hope this helped.

If you didn’t officially get housing then you will not get charged. Don’t worry about it.
