Can I change from ED to RD?

I have already submitted my application to NYU, and everything is in except the October SAT scores. I marked Early Decision, and I turned in the ED contract, but now I'm having second thoughts. My parents are wary of me entering into a binding contract and not being able to compare financial aid packages or visit my top choices at least once more. Can I call the admissions office and have them change my application to RD? Would this be looked down upon or is this even possible? NYU is my top choice, but I just don't know if applying ED is the best decision for me and my family.

Thoughts?

... these are all things you and your parents should've thought about and discussed BEFORE sending in your application ED.

I've never heard of anyone doing this before, so I don't know what to tell you. I guess you can call them up and ask to be switched over to RD, but be aware that they may just consider you to have withdrawn your application entirely.

I would definitely call the Admissions office and ask to speak with a counselor for the specific school within NYU (CAS, Stern, Steinhardt, etc) and then plead your case.

If you wait too long, they may have already made a decision on your application.

Do they make decisions before the November 1st deadline? I don't even have my SAT scores sent in yet, so my application isn't complete.

I did talk about it with my parents, and they are willing to do whatever they need to do to pay for me to go to NYU, but they would prefer to have more options. I'm not going to be upset if they can't change it, but it is before the deadline, so...

Call the Admissions office tomorrow and request that it be changed to a Regular Decision application. Don't delay.

NYU sends a letter with your application info and asks you to make any corrections or changes on the letter and to send it back. I sent it in the mail today with a note explaining my desire to change to RD. Should I call the admissions office tomorrow even though I sent this letter?

Definitely definitely give them a call as well.

Ok thanks for all your replies! I'm calling the admissions office this morning.

Generally speaking, admissions counselors start to make decisions as soon as your portfolio is complete.

Good luck!

They're changing it for me. Thanks for your help!

Hi!
Im in the same situation you were a few years ago and I would like to know what the admissions office told you. I know they changed it for you but do you think the change affects your chances of getting accepted RD? Did the admissions office look at it in a bad way?
