I am a student who wants to major in public administration. However I decided to apply for community college first and then transfer to 4year university. But when I looked for community colleges there are only few of them offer public administration program. The nearest related major is political science or Liberal Artsad science ;Humanities and social services. I am wondering is it okay for me to take these courses in order to transfer to 4 year college to major in public administration.

Because many bachelor’s degree majors do not even exist at the associates degree level, many CC -> 4-year students do not major in the same thing at each school. Many do not even get the associates degree, since many 4-year schools just require a set of preparatory courses for transfer that are not necessarily the same as those which would result in an associates degree.

Look for CCs which have the preparatory courses specified for transfer into the bachelor’s degree program of your major at your target 4-year school. This may involve looking at the curriculum at the 4-year school and then checking the transfer credit page to see if it has the CCs listed with what CC course is equivalent to what course at the 4-year school.
