Can i change major?

Is it possible to change major from the one you put down on your application?

Yes, if the major is in the school you got accepted into. If not you will have to do an internal transfer.

I'm done with apps and all, but I just never knew why colleges want to know your prospective major. Is that part of admission decision? If people decide their major for junior year, why do they have to know now?

^^

Yes prospective majors are taken into account in admissions decisions.

If i wanted to change my major (i applied as a physics major but i wanna change to econ/math), how and by when would I go about doing this? Would they send me a form to fill out (e.g. applying for classes)? Or would I choose a major in my junior year (im in CAS)?

Thank you in advance for your answer.

I'm pretty sure you just choose. They probably won't even know you originally put physics down on the app. That's why I found it strange that colleges want to know what your prospective major is. So there's no real change involved because the major you put down on the app was not official. All you're doing is picking in your junior year.

Im sure they know, becuase NYU's physics department sent me a letter regarding the pros of their program etc~

I would imagine they know what you want to study, I've talked to professors in NYU's econ and math departments (my intended majors).

Changing course of study also depends on the NYU college you're in. In CAS, you can change your major anytime you want because it's a liberal arts college, but I don't think the other NYU schools work like this since you apply into a specific major and not just the school in general.
