Can I change my intended career for different colleges on the common app?

I'm applying to a few pharmacy programs through the common app. After I apply to these schools early action, can I change my intended career to something else because for the other colleges I'm considering a different career. I just haven't decided whether or not I'll be doing pharmacy (but I will decide by May). Any help at all is appreciated.

Other colleges aren’t going to HOLD you to what you list as a 17 year old as a possible career. It’s for their recruiting purposes. Obviously, with actual pharm prgms you’re applying to, it matters. Others? Not at all.

Yes - it is my understanding that you are allowed a certain number of “changes” in the Common App - I think it is 3 total but don’t take this as a guarantee without checking. So yes, you can submit to several schools; then make a change (some kids update their essay) and then submit to different schools.

@T26E4 Thank you, but the problem is the other career I’m thinking of is in medicine… The problem with that is I got an extremely low grade on the SAT II / AP for bio, so I was thinking of telling these colleges I want to be a history major and listing a career related to that, and then changing my major when I get in, so that way I could maximize my chances. The problem is it doesn’t add up if I say I want to be a pharmacist and major in history. What do you think?

The prior poster is right – colleges aren’t really looking at the career choices listed. But you have a good thought – if you are listing as pre-medicine but your AP and SAT II scores in science/math are not strong, then maybe that isn’t so good.

@Momof2back2back Yeah… exactly. I had a horrible AP bio teacher, so I got a 3 on the AP test and a 660 on the SAT II which isn’t good for a pre-med. I just hope I can change my intended career after I apply to the pharmacy programs and sell my “major” to those colleges.

BTW anyone else care to comment? More advice will be HIGHLY appreciated!
