Can I change my mind about applying for need-based aid?

I marked on a Common App college application I submitted that I was not intending to pursue need-based financial aid. Does this lock me into not applying, or can I still apply at a later date? I marked it because I didn't think I would receive any, but my parents pointed out later that we could still apply and see what happened, but I'm afraid I don't have that option since I already submitted the form...

Naming the school would help get you an answer.

Call the schools and have that changed on your application.

The school is WashU

Call the financial aid office at wash u tomorrow. Tell them that you will be applying for need based aid, but mistakenly indicated no on the common application. Ask them what to do.

At this point in time, most likely yes. At some schools, if you don’t apply for financial aid by a certain time, you can lose out on institutional funds. At other schools that are need aware, and WashUSL is need aware for admissions, they may not take kindly to those who do not apply for fin aid until after acceptance. How that particular school, or most for that matter, I can’t tell you what the ramifications are. My guess is that’s it’s early enough that you can let them know without issues. Let them know ASAP.

Okay, thanks-- I called the admissions office today and they had it changed for me.
