Hello. My counselor has submitted my second semester schedule on commonapp, but I kinda want to deviate from it. I want to take out a class or two from the schedule she submitted for me. Will colleges care? Will this be bad? The classes I want to take out are electives, not like AP classes or anything.
You’ll have to notify them of the changes. No problem though.
You need to notify every school you applied to. If the classes are electives like music/art it should not matter.
Even swapping out an core AP class isn’t going to hurt if you have a good reason and your transcript over 4 years is rigorous. D had to take math on-line her senior year instead of AP Math and drop AP Music her second semester because her internship conflicted with the AP classes. None of the highly selective schools to which she applied had an issue with it, even though she applied as a potential engineer. One AP more or less just wasn’t an issue.
^^^My friend’s D had a different experience. She got in ED to a very competitive school and called to see if she could drop down a level from AP math (one of many APs she was taking) in the second semester. The reply was that if she did drop AP math that the school would re-evaluate her acceptance. So she got a tutor and finished out the AP class so not to jeopardize her admission. So, my bottom line is to always ask first. Better safe than sorry.
