can i consider UCLA a safe match?

<p>Hi I'm a sophmore in the north bay, i still haven't taken the SAT's but plan to this year but if you could please tell me if UCLA is Saftey reach or match that'd be great, and what i should aim for on the SAT's to get me in (realistically)</p>

<p>Basics:
Top 10% of class
Weighted GPA: 4.0 (4.17 at end of year) (I don't know if the UC system does it differently but A in AP class = 5 right?)
1/2 of my classes have only seniors and juniors (I'm the only sophmore)</p>

<p>Freshman:
AC Spanish 5-6 (3rd yr)
Honors algebra 3-4
Honors Biology (2nd year science at my school)
P.E.
Honors English 1-2
Apreciation of the arts</p>

<p>Sophmore:
AC spanish 7-8 (4th yr.)
IB trig/precalc
IB chemistry (third yr. scienice)
computer foundations
Honors world history
Honors english 3-4</p>

<p>Extras:
150 hours of community service
science club
Safe school embassador
Academic decatholon participant
attended math competitions
won a $500 dollar schloraship for winning at a bussiness camp
Varsity swimming
Practice swimming 2 hrs. everyday after school on competitve team
Plan on doing partial IB diploma (there's no higher level science or math)</p>

<p>to further clarify, it is WHAT you put in your essay that plays a big role (300 points?) in UCSD's admissions and not how well-written your essay is. basically, UCSD's adcoms are looking for key factors or experiences in your essays that they can match up points to. </p>

<p>i'm not sure if UCLA adcoms are looking for the exact same things in the essays, but i have a feeling that they take them into consideration more holistically than UCSD does. nevertheless, the essay is still an important part of the admissions decision, and is actually read since UCLA uses several adcoms and not a standing committee like how some smaller colleges do.</p>

<p>ha, thank you guys for your pessimistic predictions. i just got an e-mail saying that i'm a candidate for the regent and chancellor's scholarship to berkeley. i will definitely place my view of UCLA as a safety. :P</p>
