Im in 9th grade and the normal math class is algerbra 1. Im in pre algebra and its super easy for me and i understand well i never did pre algebra before this year. But to be with the avergae standard could i double ups algebra 1 and geometry next year or would i be complete lost in geometry
I’m currently doubling up in Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra 2 as a sophomore, so it is definitely doable. However, if you’re going to be taking Algebra 1 and Geometry at the same time, make sure you’re good on basic algebra skills for Geometry because you will need to know things like how to solve linear/quadratic equations at times. I would say go for it.
Don’t take Alg1 and Geo concurrently. Geometry has Algebra 1 skills, and you would be lost without it. If anything, to get back on track, double up with Alg2 and Geometry during your junior year.
Talk to your guidance counselor and current math teacher.
Why not double up as a junior instead?
Why didn’t you take prealgebra in middle school?
You could ask to be in Algebra1H (honors), then see if you can take Algebra2 and Geometry junior year, and precalculus senior year.
I agree with MYOS1634. If your school has an honors algebra 1, go for it. It’s probably not a good idea to take geometry and algebra 1 concurrently, because from my experience, (honors) geometry relied heavily on algebra 1 skills, though that might just have had to do with my school.
@emersonnnnnvchs I do NOT recommend taking Algebra 1 and Geometry together because while Geometry is mostly its own thing, you do need to know how to factor, and Algebra 1 teaches you a lot about that. If you wish to advance more in math, I recommend doubling up in Geometry and Alg. 2 in an upcoming school year as Alg. 2 has nothing to do with Geometry, and Geometry has nothing to do with Alg. 2. Then again, like @HS student said, I was in Geometry Honors and Alg. 1 Honors, so I am not aware how much math is needed from Algebra 1 to do well in Geometry.
Good luck! Have a good day!
