Can i drop Physics in high school?

Hey guys, right now I'm a sophomore in High School. I am looking to become a doctor and wondering if it is necessary to take Physics. Like if I wanted to get into a college like NYU or UPENN would I need that course. So far I've taken general science and Bio Honors. I got an A- in both classes. Next year I am taking Chemistry Honors and I am probably going to take AP Bio during senior year. So my choices are are the following:
-Drop Physics Honors
-Take Physics H over the summer but not during a school year
-Double up on Physics H and AP Bio senior year (I'm worried about the workload though because I am also taking AP Calc BC, AP Euro, AP English Literature. AP Spanish Literature)

A lot of schools look for at least a year of each of the three core sciences, bio/chem/physics. I would imagine that Penn and NYU would be among those that do. If you’re looking to be a doctor then I would say taking those science classes would be more important.

So then should i double up senior year and take AP Bio along with Physics Honors. Does anyone know how difficult Physics Honors might be?

The course difficulty depends on your school and your aptitude; talk to upperclassmen who have taken it. I actually don’t think most universities (even selective ones) care which sciences you take, as long as it is 4+ years of whatever constitutes a rigorous curriculum for your HS. Physics seems like the least applicable of the three to medicine anyway.

You don’t seem to like physics. It is one of the hardest sciences to do if you genuinely have no interest and/or struggle. If this is true, you might as well drop it and put your time and motivation into some EC or service project that you enjoy/inspires you. Maybe volunteer at a hospital?

Thanks a lot. Are u sure Physics isn’t very necessary to get into a good college like NYU or UPENN?

I would take physics if you want to be a doctor. It is important/beneficial to be exposed to the subject before you reach college. I would take honors physics junior year and AP bio senior year. Know that many colleges strongly encourage that you take bio, chem and physics in high school.

Since you have particular schools in mind, why not call? As CCers, we’re really just guessing.

“Would you consider me a stronger applicant if I took an Honors Physics class instead of XXX as a senior, or is four years of (non-physics) science considered strong for a pre-med applicant?”

And when I say call, I mean call. You’ll get much better information than with an email.
