Can I email colleges for scholarship?

Hi everyone, I got accepted to 2 universities, one private and one public. I would really want to go to that private school since its top20 in the nation. But the tuition is of course crazy. I am wondering if any if you have tried to write to AO to ask for scholarship? Is it gonna sound lame or upset them?

Reveal the schools!!

It’s late to do this. If there are any special scholarship for which you are not automatically considered, you would have had to have applied in the fall is the way it works. Go on ahead and ask, doesn’t hurt, but the pickings are slim and none at this time of the year. Your best bet would be local scholarships with deadlines still open. Ask your guidance counselors, and if you have friends at Catholic schools in the area ask them it they have a list. Those schools seem to keep on top of those things well.

Most top 20 schools meet need. Did you fill out FAFSA and Profike? Does your family qualify or need based aid? Getting merit id St this point is highly unlikely.

Can you clarify?

You’re a transfer student and an international?

Are the schools Vandy and UVA?

What have they offered so far? I don’t think UVA gives aid to int’ls.

Sorry for the confusion. I am transfering from Canadian universities and I am international. I didnt apply for needbased aid since school does not provide that for intls. Thats why i am thinking maybe asking for merit scholarships…if possible.

I got in Umich ann-arbor and wustl.
Any chance to email them for merit scholarships?

Thank ya all for the reply!

UMich doesn’t give aid to internationals IIRC.

I know UM does not give financial aid for internationals, but are there some scholarships or merit money for which such students may be considered?

Not that it likely matters this year. Do ask the AO about these things,OP, and financial aid as well, but you are late in asking, really. But it does not hurt.

Doesn’t WashU provide need-based aid for int’ls?

anyway, since you’re a transfer, your chances for any merit are slim.

How did you expect to pay for these schools when you applied?

Well I could afford them, but I mean it would be better if they could give me any merit based scholarships since I think I have a decent background. Wustl does offer need-based, but due to the policy, applying for needbased scholarship will decrease my chance of getting admission(since i am intl). thats why i did not apply for that.

You can ask, but really you’re not going to get anything. WashU has some scholarships for incoming frosh with super stats.

Having a “decent background” and being a transfer isn’t likely enough for Wash U to give you anything just because you’d like to get some money.

Merit aid is not going to happen. You can’t bait and switch, apply as full pay and then ask for aid.d
