Can I even get into college like this?

I have a 3.3 gpa. It was 2.8 in freshman, 3.2 in sophomore, and 3.9 in my junior year. I plan on applying early decision to Carnegie Mellon. Should I even try? My parents are telling me to just give up, but I want to know.

1450 out of 1520 PSAT, NM commended (just 30 points below NMSF!)

I also had a hard time in freshman and sophomore year, because I was facing a lot of problems at home, what with my parents constantly fighting and the subject of divorce always coming up. I also moved to this high school from another one, and had to make new friends and whatnot.

I don’t really have an amazing background in math and engineering (the major I am aspiring for).

So do I have a chance? And I don’t mean a 1% chance, I mean will the admissions office even consider my acceptance?
Please help :frowning:

Well your grades definitely show an upward trend and you have a great SAT. I think you have a shot, I would be careful relying too much on your parents fighting as a reason for bad grades as thousands of kids have parents who get a divorce while they are in high school. Instead highlight how you grew up, matured, and was able to finally apply your true potential. So yeah apply! You have nothing to lose and the worst that would happen is your out 50 bucks and they say no so go for it.
