Can I even get into college or should I enlist

Im a florida resident aporoching my sr year .Lets start off by saying I had a really bad freshman and sophemore year. I had to deal with a lot, and its reflected in my GPA. I have a 2.74 unweighted,(I don't know how much weighted) , I bombed the act with a 21 . My AP and honors course list is as follows : AP Human Geo,Ap world history, AP us history, AP psychology , AP English comp, Bio hon, earth space hon, chemistry hon, physics hon, English 2 hon, geometry. Hon, & pre Cal / trig .... (The next few are my SR schedule) AP statistics, AP European history, AP enviormental science, AP economics &macroeconomics , & AP government ... All I wanted to do was go to fsu & get a double major in business admin. & international studies , so I can start a non profit that raises awareness about the developing world while donating money to these countries....any suggestions of any colleges that would take me , or should i enlist Sorry for errors i wrote this is on my phone

There are many colleges that will accept you, just do your research. Only enlist unless you truly don’t want to go to college.

1) don’t do the “non-profit” – a) it won’t help you get into FSU or any other likely targeted college and b) it’ll be pretty weak. Instead, focus on:

2) meeting w/guidance counselor and look over a list of likely colleges (including FSU) for people who have achieved what you have in the past. Your taking honors/AP classes says that you’re a serious scholar and should be successful at the collegiate level.

Good luck to you.

I’m by no means trying to use the non profit as a way to get admitted, & I have probably the worst counselor in the world she’s always says to all of her students.“college isn’t likely” , that’s why I’m on this fourm so I can get a general idea … (Additional info. Ecs - founder & chair man of student court, class treasurer , member of skills USA, student advisor ( I give tours of the school and what not) and memeber of community’s in schools ( a local community service program)

Sorry to hear that about your GC. Bleah!

Regardless, please carry through on the EC – but know you should just do it because you want to. What I’m saying is the schools you will target will only evaluate you on GPA, transcript and test scores. ECs and leadership positions won’t be considered. Only the very very selective programs look at these features.

Frankly since you’ve focused on FSU, your best bet is to speak with one of their admissions counselors. Tell them your rigorous schedule and the general attitude of your GC. Tell them how you’ve focused on APs and honors classes despite a poor Fr and So years in HS. I think they’ll tell you honestly your chances.

I fear the ACT can be a burden – have you considered ACT prep classes? Frankly these may be a better use of your time than other ECs/leadership at this point.

But your strength is definitely your desire to take a difficult schedule despite your first two years. Good luck to you and return often with more questions.

I can tell you now, it’s very unlikely that FSU will accept you. Last year, both FSU and UCF were rejecting kids with even higher stats. The competition is rough in Florida since it’s a highly populated state with UF, FSU, and UCF as popular choices.

Since you won’t qualify for Bright Futures, how are you going to pay for college?

If your family will pay for wherever you go, then you will have choices.

If your family won’t pay, then you’ll either have to enlist or start at a CC.

Do you know if you can get BF for the last 2 years of college, if you do well at a CC?

Again, if your parents will pay, you will have options.

Test again…and take the SAT. Some do better on that.

I qualify for bf based on my veteran futures weighted GPA, I also have a 100,000 scolarship because my dad is a disabled veteran

*bright futures not veteran

Can you clarify?

How do you qualify for BF with your current stats?

Bright futures weighs gpas. I posted my unweighted GPA, but with the rigor of my course load my weighted GPA falls into bright futures guidelines

Ah…Thanks for the clarification.

Does BF require certain test scores?

What is your weighted GPA on your transcript?

Still, with your test score, FSU probably won’t admit you.

Mid range of ACT scores at FSU

ACT Composite: 24 - 28

those with below 24 are going to be special admits…like football players and such.

Your right … but I don’t know yet before my Jr year it was a 3.2 but this year I earned a 3.75 which should end up at 3.475 and that rounds to a 3.5 if I keep my 3.75 trend my GPA when I graduate should be close to 3.65

If you are fully qualified for Bright Futures, then you should be able to find a place for yourself within the public university system in Florida. Since you feel that your guidance counselor is useless, make an appointment with the admissions office at the closest public U in Florida, and have a chat about what Bright Futures can do for you. Even better if you can visit FSU and talk with them.

Wishing you all the best!

I got a 26 on my ACT and had a 4.27 GPA and was accepted
