Can I expect, and if so, how much in Merit money from Boston University, U Miami, and Northeastern

My son got a 32 and did not get anything from any of those three schools. He was also the president of the robotics team, math honor society, and had many APs with a 5 score. Things are getting though out there and very unpredictable. Your best bet is a 33+ and an A average.

Last year, DS did not apply to Boston University but did apply to Northeastern and Miami. He received the Singer Scholarship from Miami and $20,000+/year from Northeastern. He had a 35 ACT, a high GPA, many APs and from a high school that did not rank. He had the usual ECs but no leadership positions. His high school is nationally ranked and his interviewer for the Singer/Stamp weekend – recognized the school and mentioned it during the interview.

My DS had a 32 ACT superscore (along with top 5% class rank, 4.0 WGPA) and received a $15K academic scholarship from Miami (sorry ddahwan!). Although admissions said they don’t consider them, he also sent three great scores on SAT2s. I can’t say that helped, but it couldn’t have hurt. His ECs showed great long-term commitment and leadership (sports, music, community service), but he didn’t cure the common cold or anything remotely comparable to that! Also not a URM nor from a geographic area from far far away (middle class Long Island). He didn’t apply to Northeastern or BU, so nothing to add on that front.

Also - he got a bigger academic scholarship from Tulane, but Tulane’s tuition is higher so it evened out cost-wise. Miami won out for other reasons. We tried to leverage the Tulane scholarship with UM, but nothing came of that.

Linymom-Thank you! Yes, I already received a VERY large scholarhship from Tulane!!! Hoping that the others follow but I am very excited about Tulane!!

Ok thanks. Hopefully I will get a lot of money from Miami. I know students last year in my school received 15k a year and they had slightly lower ACTs. I am hoping they will be generous to me because my sister goes there also. It would be a great place to study!

Though son is a somewhat recent UM grad…
He had high stats and applied to UM and Tulane and BU as safeties.
UM gave him the most (Singer schoarship- full tuition) followed by Tulane (something in the 20K range/year and BU-nothiing!!!
STATS- 34 ACT with high scores in each area, 4.0 UWGPA, Valedictorian, 13 AP’s plus 1 college class.
FYI- decided to forgo top choices he was accepted to and go to UM, debt free, and attend grad school (also debt free).

Good luck to you. Miami is a great place to be!
