Can I Expect Financial Aid?

hey NB… I know I’m late to the party, but I did take a quick look at your Threads over the past 10 weeks.

You should know that the NYU and BU are not known for very good financial aid – in other words they are known to offer packages that leave a huge gap between EFC and COA.

I hope you get into an Ivy because they offer the best FA.

What I didn’t see in your posts was ANY financial safeties. No Rutgers. No College of New Jersey.

Look, you have worked hard and can probably get into some prestigious schools. However, don’t forget that somebodyis going to be saddled with big loans, and that one of those somebodies is going to be… YOU. Your parents might have the best intentions in the world, but part of the financial aid package will rest on your own shoulders for many years after you graduate.

Apply to some financial safeties (NJ publics or schools ranked 70-100 where you might get Merit aid of 50%-75% of tuition… or even full tuition).

If you end up needing to attend a financial safety, you will always know you GOT IN to a more prestigious college. That is its own reward.

^^^

I agree. I know that the OP says that he’s the nervous type, but I think he (she?) does need to be concerned that mom doesn’t really quite understand how FA works.

I think she thinks that if each twin’s EFC is - say - $15k, then she will certainly ONLY have to pay each school $15k. But, we know that’s not true.

And, for a school like NYU…the family could be expected to pay $30k for ONE child after getting a $20k grant.

dude… i know. big bro went to nyu. they suck with FA. gotcha.

and no thanks to dunnin for lookin into my past threads. seriously. not cool. don’t appreciate it anyhow.

oh, and dunnin, i applied for BU Trustee Scholarship. wish me luck.
