Can I expect to recieve my scholarship money before school starts?

Hey, I'm a returning sophomore at the University of Houston who just received the $5,000 Eugene H. Hughes scholarship from Bauer for top finance students. This is kind of a heaven sent since the towards the tail end of spring semester my laptop was stolen and made finals hell. The money I'm getting is being split $2,500 each semester which is just enough to get a nice computer with a good sum left, thing is I'd really prefer to have my laptop before the first day of classes & be able to take advantage of some of the deals going on at various stores so I'd have more $$ left over for other expenses.

So does anyone w/ scholarship experience know if I could expect to get scholarship money to spend BEFORE the first day of classes?

You’d need to call the school to find out what they’ll do when they get the money.

Do you know when your school will ACTUALLY receive the money?

usually, schools apply all money towards your school costs…and then if there’s a positive balance, they’ll refund that money a couple of weeks after school starts.

How are the rest of your school costs covered? What kind of aid do you get? How much does your school cost?

Is it possible that your school will reduce your aid because of this scholarship?
