I am in my final course of my graduate degree at Grand Canyon University, and they have a written policy about dropping from courses that states that if you do not drop during the very first week of the course, you cannot get any refund, but this “Professor”, did not show her horns until week 2, and so it is past the week 1 deadline…
In any case, she has changed the standards for grading that are also written in the school’s policy handbook, and decided to remove significant points from my grade, just for doing what is stated in the school’s policies, but she did not do this in week 1. Am I justified to ask for a refund to withdraw from the class, and take it again later??
She does not respond to student messages for clarification within the 48 hours she is supposed to, and only will reply to your contacts AFTER she has already murdered you grade.
She makes up her own rules for the course work, and though I realize that professors are allowed an amount of leeway in this, it seems to be mean-spirited to me, and designed specifically to justify giving hard working students bad grades.
She is very rude, and obnoxious to try to correspond with for help.
Can I complain about this person, and get out of the class now, or is it too late, and I just have to take her attacks, and hope that i can get through the class without totally failing it?? I mean, these classes are FAR from Free, and I do not think it is unreasonable to expect value for my money!!
I would not expect a refund. However, if you have paperwork that clearly supports your allegations then perhaps go to the dean. If this is your last class and you are earning a C at least, I would graduate and get on with my life. Dropping would potentially delay graduation. Consider your options.
No, no, no. Waste of energy and dignity. Drop the class and move on. Channel your energies positively. Use RATE MY PROFESSOR before you register next time.
But if you go talk to the department chair in a calm, objective tone, bringing along the student handbook, course outline, and documented examples of the things you’re unhappy about (not responding to emails in the required tiem frame, for example), you might be able to make some positive changes.
And it really works…my DD had a spanish professor that would never grade anything, so my DD didn’t know what her grade was. She complained to the Department Head and after that she started getting grades.
