I'd like to stay in the northeast. I'm in a high income family so it would need to be merit.

Where should I apply to get good scholarships?

Did you look at the Full Tuition/Full Ride thread? Those are where just by the numbers, you can pretty much count on getting certain awards. Most merit awards are not guaranteed by thresh holds, however so for those, you just have to see if you are selected. Just like for admissions acceptance, the higher your stats, especially scores, the better your chances. Look up the schools that interest you and make sure they even give merit money, how much they give, their average awards and then guess where you are in the pool. If 10% of the kids get merit money with the average award of $15K, and you are barely at the upper 25% with your test scores, you can pretty clearly see that the chances of you getting anything close to a full ride is very small, Also look at the full COA of the schools. $15K in award money still leaves a huge pricetag on some of these privates running $60k+ and the OOS publics are not so far behind sometimes.

The Northeast is a poor source for large scholarships (like full tuition or more). You need to broaden your geography.

How low-ranked of schools will you consider? Some full rides are at commuter/suitcase schools which could be lonely at nights and on weekends.

What is your intended major? career goal?

Will you be a National Merit student? How did you do on the PSAT?

What is your situation?

“Full rides” (tuition, room, board, books) are rare - especially without NMF status. How much will your parents pay each year?

Would a “full tuition” scholarship be enough? If you got a full tuition scholarship would your parents pay for room, board and books (about $15k per year)???

Full tuition would be enough. I’m interested in linguistics and languages. Thanks for the responses id be willing to go to schools farther away but I’d like to stay in the northeast.

Commended is good, but won’t result in any merit money.

Temple might work. UPitt is iffy and depends on what the M+CR is. Pitt has been demanding higher and higher scores and higher rank/GPA as well for full tuition. What is your rank?

Entomom’s D wasn’t given the full tuition even tho scores were high because ranking wasn’t high enough or something like that. Hopefully, Entomom will chime in. Pitt has become harder and harder to get free tuition.

Full tuition would be enough. I’m interested in linguistics and languages

Ok…good, so your parents will pay the $15k or so for room, board, etc. :)

Bama would give you full tuition for your stats. Beautiful campus. Very good languages program. Fabulous dorms with private bedrooms. You’d qualify for the Honors College, so you’d get priority registration.

Also, all the foreign languages have fab study abroad programs, including summer programs that are faculty led.

is that from one sitting? If so, then in addition to free tuition, Bama may also offer you an additional $4k per year if you apply soon. The app is online now. Apply…the app is EZ …no LORs, no essays. If you apply soon, you’d have your acceptance within a couple of weeks. Also submit the scholarship app…a formality, but must be done (again, no essays, no LORs.)
