I know it is very early, but I am a rising Sophomore who is 1st in his class taking the most difficult class setup available. If I stay on this track and get good SAT's, do you think I can get a full scholarship? I am in a very large school. Class rank: 1/589. It is considered one of the top schools in the state of GA. I was hoping to go to Georgia Tech and get a full scholarship. Let me know if this is possible. I am also a very good soccer player. I play in one of the best leagues available to the US. I would be able to play DII at the least, but I am confident I will do fine in DI. I am not sure if this plays a part at all.

Someone help me please

Can you get a full scholarship to every college in the US? Of course not.

Could you possibly get one scholarship from any college in the US? Probably.

Check out this link for automatic full tuition scholarships. Some Universities have guaranteed scholarships if you have a certain GPA and SAT/ACT score.

Okay… So do you think I can get a full scholarship to some middle tier colleges such as Georgia U

Do you mean U Georgia? If you’re OOS, no. The GA publics rely on HOPE for their merit scholarships.

When you ask for full scholarship…do you mean tuition only? or full ride…tuition, room, board, books, fees, etc? If you get a full tuition scholarship, you will still have to pay about $15k for room, board, books, fees, etc.

Right now, without TEST scores, we really can’t tell you. Schools don’t give much or NOTHING for being the Val or having a high GPA. TEST scores, along with a high GPA, is what’s needed.

CAN you get a full scholarship? “CAN” means “are able”. So are you able to get a full scholarship, or is it possible? Yes, it is. Talk to your school counselor and also go on the HOPE scholarship site to see what you need to do to get one of those awards. HOPE gives free tuition to public colleges in the state of GA to residents who meet certain qualification. Also Georgia Tech gives a number of free rides with their Presidential awards, but they are not guaranteed. You have to file a separate application for them and get your application in very early, end of October or maybe September. Please double check all of my info because I may well be wrong and outdated on my information. THings change a lot and fast in the college world.

I think that is it is great that you are looking for good options for college. A scholarship would be great, but many are competitive. No guarantee for anything at this point. Keep the grades up there and work on your test scores and that will increase your chances.

Of course, there are full ride scholarships in Georgia for both instate and out of state students. The Foundation Fellows at UGA are full ride with travel money, some of the President’s scholars at Georgia Tech are full ride and all PS can get travel money, and some Emory Scholars are full ride. For instate students, the full Zell Miller (which any student who would win these scholarships would have) counts towards the full ride but room and board are also paid. These are all very competitive scholarships where much more than top grades and scores are considered. You could also get good scholarship money at Georgia State, Georgia Southern etc. but I am not as familiar with those programs.

The Presidential Scholars at Tech is particularly competitive - when I was in high school (a GA public magnet that produced a LOT of Georgia Tech students) we used to joke that you had to have a 4.0 AND save a busload of children or cure AIDS in order to get it. The deadline is early - October 15.

It is possible for you to get a full scholarship to Tech, but the scholarships are competitive - there are a lot of students just like you who will be competing with you. Since you go to a HS in GA, you are also eligible for HOPE, which will cover most of your tuition (it used to cover all of it, but I think they changed it).

Georgia Tech’s Scholarship is called the President’ s Scholarship not the Presidential. Georgia students can still get full tuition with the Zell Miller Scholarship which requires a 3.7 GPA and a 1200 SAT (M+V). It is easy to get more info by googling them.
