Can I get a hotel room at 17?

So I'm going to visit a college without my parents (for once). I did a bit of research and found out that you can't book a hotel room unless you're over 18 (in some cases 21). Could my parents pay for a room with their credit card over the phone for me?

Edit: This is in California if that matters.

I thought this thread was going to be about… something else.

I’m pretty sure your parents could work something out with the hotel and some hotels probably won’t ask for your ID if you look old enough

Good question. It really depends upon the hotel, some make exceptions while others do not. Call the hotels around the school to see what their policies are.

When I visited schools at 17 I was often able to stay in bed and breakfasts that didn’t operate like normal hotels

Thanks for the advice. What’s the difference between a bed and breakfast versus a hotel?
Are there any bread and breakfast chains?

@HarryJones, same here hahaha!

A bed & breakfast is generally run in a building that was originally a house, whereas a hotel isn’t as unique and original when it comes to rooms, service, etc.

A youth hostel would probably work, too
