Can I get accepted into an Ivy League with a C?

Im a freshman at high school. In my first marking period I got all A’s. My second marking period I got a B in German. But this marking period I got a B in Environmental Science and a C in German. Do you think I can go to an Ivy League? (BTW I’m taking AP/Honors classes next year.)

I’m not going to lie, getting a C will hurt your chances, but WAYYY more as a Junior or Sophomore than a Freshman. Upward trend is the most important thing (ie don’t go from an all A freshman student to an all B Junior student, even in harder classes). Take all AP/Honors, try to get all As to the best of your ability and most likely you’d get in an least ivy with good ECs and ACT/SAT. Ivys aren’t everything though. Even with a few Bs you could still get in a really good top 20 school or somewhere worse with an amazing scholarship.

Well you got an A, then a B and now a C. So, thats going to average to like a B at the end of the year. The only reason this will hurt your chances, is because having a B will hurt your GPA. Colleges don’t look at individual marking period grades. Also, if you trying for Ivy league colleges, you can’t let yourself slip from an A, to be and then to C. Gotta put in the effort. Everything has to be spotless for those schools.

You will likely get a few more B’s and C’s as you go further in HS. As a freshman, you’re asking silly questions. Do the best you can in HS and come back to these forums in 2 years when you have a good sense of your overall GPA as well as some test scores.
