can i get accepted with a 2.9 gpa

im a junior in high school right now and my gpa is a 2.8, i could probably raise it up to a 2.9. i messed up my freshman year of high school but ever since then i have been working hard. i know that the ideal gpa to have is a 3.0 but i plan on getting that before i graduate high school. im in the 3rd quarter of my graduating class. i want to be the first in my family to go to a university straight out of high schools. most university i want to apply for are state schools. i live with a single parent. and my family is from somalia. im the first in my family to be born in america. i really don't want to go to a community college.

im going to start applying for colleges in the beginning of senior year. i really don't want to go to a community college. i want to go to a state university.

i plan on aplying for sam houston state university, tarleton state university, stephen f. austin state university, university of texas at permian basin, and university of texas at san antonio.

will these colleges except me.

P.S i have't really taken the sat before but i have taken the psat. i did ok on the psat i got a 1200 on it. i plan on getting atleast a 1200 or above when i take the real sat test in may. i never took the act either

When you say 1200, do you mean on the new 1600 scale or the 2400 scale?

on the 2400 scale. im in the 2015 class not the 2016 class. i ■■■■■■■ hate how i won’t be able to take the easier sat test

first of all, accept**
Secondly, you are a minority and your stats are at par with those colleges, so you should be fine. If you express your desire to attend college and get your essays read by teachers, I would say a solid match.

thanks

1200 is 300 points below national average… Maybe try taking the ACT?
