Hi everyone! I've dreamt of going to Harvard from more than 3 years. I actually moved to the United States in my sophomore year. It was pretty hard to suddenly jump into a very very different environment but oh well I managed to become who I am today. I am obsessed with Harvard, and I used to really limit my options when it came to collages. This thing has been really troubling me, I have done research and I get different answers from which ever website I go to. I have a perfect SAT score 2400/2400 but my only weakness here is that the school that I was in, didn't offer any AP classes. The school was extremely hard and yes my GPA was pretty low in my freshman year at that school. My GPA right now in my junior year is 3.8 unweighted. I have great EC's, I am in process of designing a vegan app which basically counts your calories of a vegan product and compares it to a non vegan product to help you understand the difference it makes to be a vegan. I also own a vegan website, that just showcases my interest and gives out vegan recipes. I am part of the Dallas Vegan group and am president of CHETA club, which is again a promoter of veganism in my school. I have a whole bunch of other great EC's but I just listed my most passionate ones. The only thing that I believe may keep me out of those beautiful Harvard gates is I think my gpa in my freshman year. What do you guys think?

welcome to CC: please read the following

What’s a “great shot” at a school that admits less than 6% of applicants?

Thank you so much @ivynornah . This definitely boosts my morale . I also have another thing that I forgot to mention in my post, How important are AP classes to the admission officers? As I mentioned, I didn’t have any of those in my freshmen year, but again that was a very very difficult school in India. Also, I am taking two AP and 3 honor classes this year in my junior year. I was quite intimidated with many other profiles that posted a thread here and pretty much took all classes as AP classes. Which one would you weigh harder? AP classes or everything else in my application?

Anyone can sign up for and take an AP exam whether AP classes are taught at their school or not. You just buy the prep book at the store for $20 and study for the exam. You can also take AP classes online if you really want someone to walk you through the material. Unless your app sells a lot and makes a lot of money, or you do something else spectacular, then I’d say it’s still as long a shot to get in as any of the other thousands of students with perfect SAT scores and/or valedictorian status who get rejected from Ivies every year. I’m only trying to give you a reality check so you can start dreaming of being happy at a non-Ivy school, because the odds are against everyone getting into Ivy. Fall in love with some plan B options where you use your great scores and ECs to get into other fantastic universities or get prestigious scholarships for full ride or full tuition. Yes, still apply to Ivy, but protect yourself from too much emotional disappointment if you don’t get in by also falling in love with some other options just in case. Good luck with your vegan app! And think about taking some AP exams…

@HarvardDreamss vegan powers, harvard wants u yo

@mommyrocks Thanks for your reply! Yes, Harvard is not the only school I am applying too. I visited NYU and decided to apply there as well. However, Harvard is my number one choice, and I just posted this so that people like you comment and tell me what to improve to have a solid application. Thanks for your advise :)

@T26E4 I understand that! This is my first thread and first day here Yes it’s almost impossible to get accepted in a school that rejects more than 94% percent of it’s applicants, but hey, you never know if you never try? Thanks :)

@thegrant Lol thank you! Animal rights has just become a passion of mine :)

@HarvardDreamss PETA!

@thegrant yes I have volunteered for them in summer, infact my CHETA club is very much similar to PETA but just in a smaller scale.

The acceptance rate for perfect ACT and SAT scorers ranges between 25-30% at most of the Ivies. This is not very much higher than the early acceptance rates at most of these schools. No doubt, those who get in also have strong transcripts and other parts of the application.

@falcon1 yes I agree, not all perfect scores get accepted. Do you think my EC’s are strong enough to overcome my gpa in freshmen year? Thanks for your reply :)

Sorry, but I am not good at predicting these things. Even if I had your transcripts, essays, letters of recs, and details about your “bunch of great EC’s”, I or anybody else couldn’t tell you what an AO would decide. I will wish you all the best though.

@falcon1 I understand thanks for your opinion though!

i think ur ec’s make up it. schools need diversity in their schools and just by being vegan is diverse

@thegrant Thank you! :)

btw if ur either:
hispanic
black
native american
native alaskan
pacific islander

then you can pretty much just automatically assume that you will be accepted lol

its really nice just add some other diversity within ur ecs buts its pretty lol

bumpp

@thegrant lol no I am not any of them that intimidates me even more! But I have been through some harsh consequences in my life during my sophomore year. I wish I was one of them though lol :)

@hapaz98 haha thanks! What others things do you think I should add? If it helps, I am a professional in four different types of classical dances and speak five foreign languages fluently :)
