I've written my 12th cbse exams this year , but I was suffering from typhoid during exam times and thats why I am expecting about 72 % in board . I 'll be applying to the above mentioned Universities this year (for the class of 2019) . I've taken SATs in January and Feb and my scores are 2320 ( SAT 1) and 2400 ( SAT 2) PCM . I'll get great LORs from my teachers (I think ) . I've taken many online courses on edX, coursera , stanford online , udacity (Computer Science Courses ) and I've got above 95% in many of them and even Perfect in few. I am also developing a great an app(I can't disclose Information about that ) for iOS and Android .

Following are my Grades

9th Class : 8.2
10th Class : 8.8
11th Class : 89 %
12th Class : 72 % (Expecting )

Do I have any chance of getting in the top tier Universities or my 12th class 72 % will completely ruin my Application .

Additional Details : I've taken SAT 1 twice 1st I got 2050. In second Attempt I've got 2280 (Math 800 , Writing 720 CR : 760 ) . I need Financial Aid ( Maximum Possible)

I am going to take a drop this year and I've to decide whether to prepare for Indian Entrance Exams or I should focus on my Passion (CS)

I just want to know if my 12th Percentage ruined my application ?

Whatever I'll do I won't succeed in making to those Institutions because of my 12th or should I Give it a try ?

I really wanna go there guys ,
I cannot study Chemistry any more for Indian Engineering Entrances .

Help me ..!

Answering your question - Yes you can!
Chances of admittance - MIT - .5%
Cornell - 8 %
Harvard - 3.5%
Stanford - 2%
Before you embark on your Harvard/MIT journey, know that’s it possible but the chances are very very slim. Your question is somehow biased as you’re looking for a black and white answer. You want people to either tell that you have a shot or that there’s no hope for you. Both answers would be plain wrong as no one can predict your chances (let alone these anxious applicants chancing each other). Here’s some food for thought
- Why do you wanna go to the states for education? Is it because you’re fed up of preparing for IIT or something else?
- If you really wanna go, then would you change your mind by random comments from some random people on the net?
- What’s you long term life goals (make money, get an advanced degree like JD, MD or PhD)? Are you still exploring the meaning of life?
- Do you have a back up plan in case you get rejected? (Don’t just assume that you’ll be accepted anywhere, I know people who applied to 15-20 colleges and got rejected by all of them)

Yes I am fed up preparing for JEE ( I just hate chemistry ) . In JEE Main I am getting 190 ( Math 100 , Chemistry : 0 and Physics : 95 ). I am not able to solve chemistry questions in my exams even after studyng hard for it. Well I am trying for BITSAT this time , but if I won’t get in there I’ll have to take a drop because I won’t have any choice . I won’t get into NIT bcoz of less score in Mains and Board . I also need Financial aid and Only the elite institutions offer Financial Aid to international students . I’ve 8 months for applying and I can do some great ECs in that time period .

I want to study CS . But I want to study from a great college . I want to do research in CS in future and in India we don’t have any research oppurtunities.

I want to know if my 12th Marks has just ruined my application regardless of what I do in future ?

I’ll apply for the Mains next year also and I’m sure I’ll get at least my this year Marks.
If I won’t get in any US College I’ll get into some regional college in India through Mains (Score is not that Bad) .

I am just messed up . I don’t know what to do ?

So let me get this straight, you’re not a Bio-Chem guy, but a Math-Physics guy, right? So, your main reason for wanting to leave India is because you want to continue in Engineering (Physics based engineering, I presume) and you won’t be able to do that in India due to your hatred for Chemistry and almost all good engineering schools here require you to study Chemistry for their entrance exams. I understand the feeling, I’m also a Math-Phy-Geography guy.
But, and this is a big BUT
I think you should learn to love chemistry, it’s a beautiful subject and will open new doors for you. If you wanna go into medicine later, Chemistry will help you a lot. Anyways, If you’re too sure about CS, there’s no better place to be than MIT, Cambridge or Imperial College (London). But I think you should explore your interests a little further first, going to an American college will help you do that precisely as you’ll have to declare a major at least after a year of study. The most important tip I can give you is that choose your colleges carefully. Don’t just pick the top 20 from the US News and World Report ranking and apply to them. Give the college selection a little thought a and apply to at least 5 safeties (including low ranked LACs). Your 12th marks has ruined nothing for you, I’d say take the correctional exam if possible to show that you’re genuinely concerned about your grades, try taking some APs or A-Levels. And don’t forget to write an addendum for your typhoid. And don’t just apply to MIT, Cornell, Harvard and Stanford, apply to LACs too.
Best of Luck

Thanks , I just wanted to hear " Your 12th marks has ruined nothing for you " statement .

Given your situation, the adcoms will also say "Your 12th marks has ruined nothing for you " :)

I have a similar condition too. Except I am studying for Medical Exams in India. But it is just too much for me.
My scores are as follows:
9th : 85%
10th : 92%
11th : 60%
12th : 95%
SAT 1 : 2250
SAT 2 : 2300 PCB.
I also need maximum financial aid as possible. I also have tried and gained some ECs like volunteering at a biology lab and at 2 different hospitals and at an old-age home.
I have a burning passion for medicine and those have reflected in my ECs too.
What do you think are my chances at Univerisities like Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown, JHU, NYU or something else?
My 11th grade performance sucked as I failed to cope up with Psychology. Surprising as it sounds it was one thing that got me. And it made me depressed and affected highly. But I came back with a bang in the next year and mastered it! And my psychology teacher has also written a glowing LOR.
