I want to go into engineering or physics for my undergraduate degree.
Please give me your opinion for these schools~

University of Michigan
University of Illinois (in-state)
Georgia Tech
UC Berkeley

My Stats: (4000+ students at my high school) / (competitive school)
Asian-Male (Illinois Resident)
Unweighted gpa: 3.5 (6 semesters) [4.07 weighted]
*all honors and AP courses for core classes (8 honors, 5 AP)
ACT:35
APs: European History, Language and Composition, Calculus BC, Chemistry, French (more senior year)
Class Rank: top 10%
*assume very good college essay (writing is my forte)
Good Teacher Recommendation Letters
200+ Volunteering Hours
Tutor both in violin and math (since freshman year)
Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO) all of high school
All-State Honors Orchestra
School Symphony Orchestra first-chair
Musical Pit Orchestra first-chair
Tri-M Music Honors Society
JV Swimming freshman/sophomore year

*** the gpa is no doubt lacking, but I think the rest is decent?

You’re right the GPA is lacking but your ACT score is excellent. Aside from that, it seems as if your ECs are mainly music related when you’re trying to get into engineering. Maybe try to add ECs (if you can) that go along with the major you’re applying to? I don’t know too much about these schools, but that being said…

georgia tech- match
UC Berkeley- mid/high reach
UMich - low match
U of Ilinois - high match

UMichigan: Low match, good testing but they are looking for a 3.7+ unweighted
UC Berkeley: reach, but not impossible
U of Illinois: high match
Georgia tech: not sure

U of Michigan: Match. The only thing they may not like is the UW GPA. But I think they would let it slide with those test scores!
U of Illinois: Match! Esp. because you’re in state.
Georgia Tech: I don’t know enough about this school to come to a conclusion.
UCB: Low reach. Again, your GPA may pose a problem.
