sat: 670cr 540m 610w = 1820 (retaking)
class rank: 17/64= top 26% (I think this may keep me out)

ecs: part-time job as a cashier, asb, leadership in community service club, work with school board

state: CA

course rigor: 4 years of all AP and honors classes, and community college classes

Also, if I work hard if I get in, will I be able to get into honors programs/scholarships? And how much would IU cost a year if I get the cheapest room available, dont own a car etc?

I think you’d probably be accepted, but probably not much merit, if any. There’s a $4,000/year automatic merit scholarship that you are close to qualifying for–so if you got your SATs up a bit (they only count CR & M, not writing; I think it is around 1230 or something for the 4k award) you might get that. Make sure if you apply, that your HS sends the WEIGHTED GPA–they go by the highest one they get.

I don’t think that would get you into Hutton, I believe the top 10% or so of admitted applicants are accepted into that, so unless your scores went up alot…you might try taking the ACT. Some people do better on that, it might improve your chances.

IU’s web site has cost of attendance figures, check those out. They are pretty realistic. We found the dorm/food a bit high, b/c my D was in a cheaper dorm. However, that was not guaranteed. She took a cheaper meal plan. Books were less. But for you, who knows? Her science-major friends spent a ton on books.

I’d look at IU’s website, and figure it will be around that much. The cost of attendance doesn’t factor in having a car, so I think you could count on it being between 35k-40k a year (minus whatever scholarships you could get, PLUS increases in tuition each year) Though, after freshman year you can live off campus for a lot less IF you shop around.

We’re from California too and even with merit aid ($5,000/year) we’re at somewhere around $40K all in (tuition, room and board, books, fees, travel).
