I'm just gonna say it....a 550. ONn the literature, probably the most important SAT II aside from math. I don't really have an excuse except that i probably got six hours of sleep the entire week leading up to the test....
I'm applying to good schools (UVA, William and Mary, U Penn, etc.) and have the other credentials, it's just this one score.

Am I doomed? I mean, how big of a factor are SAT IIs anyways? SOomeone told me they're just for placement.

Look at it this way.. there is little you can do about it now. If this is a one-time error it will show itself as such. My S did horrible last spring when he took three SAT II's in one sitting - I DO NOT recommend it. It also fell on the same weekend that the state championships for lacrosse were to be that night so his mind wasn't exactly on the tests. Fortunately he retook the Math II and did better, but that latin (at 550) stood out like a sore thumb. He ended up using his ACT scores and for those schools that didn't require the SATs if you took ACT's worked out fine. We'll see how he does with Georgetown as he was flat out rejected from Dartmouth. :(

A 550 isn't terrible, unless you are majoring in a related subject. I also got a 620 on Literature, but it's my only low SAT 2 and my major is not related, so I am hoping that it won't affect me.
