My gpa sucks (school difficulty).... but is there a chance? what should i build on or what should i improve?
My sister attends UCI for business/econ... if there is legacy? im gonna major in biology to get all my pre-med stuff done.

Your GPA is obviously a tad low, but your SAT might make up for that. UCI isn’t the most competitive school, but I got in with a 29 ACT and 4.1 UC GPA.

Well, I wouldnt say your gpa is low. I got accepted with 3.3 uw and 3.6 w and I had avg community service hours, no sports, and a 29 act (heck, even a 470 sat ii score). So you never know who irvine might accept. Other than that, your stats look good. Good luck and don’t give up hope!

Oh really? lol. High school students in cali have such a skewed view of what competitiveness means. Let me put it this way: UCI would be by far the most selective school in like 43/50 US states. Most public schools have an 80+% acceptance rate.

To answer the question, I think it’s unlikely since your gpa is below the average. If you really get a score 2100-2200 then you might have a chance.

Velocity… yes you can still get in, dont get discouraged. Your junior year is the big tell and what they look at first. Everyone always thinks its the senior grades only but not true at all. My friend is in admissions and they also want to see people still be aggresive and active their senior year not just float in due to less classes. My friends son wants to be in pre-med also. Get into the volunteer work at a local hospital or doc office as soon as you can. He is 16 and helps visitors find their way around. It looks great on your application and shows you are serious and into your community. Your gpa is not bad! Keep being diligent and you will be fine.

Keep in mind that colleges DO look at the competitive nature of your high school. So its not just a flat GPA that they look at; they look at how challenging your courses were, etc. etc., so don’t be discouraged. Your SAT score is good. I think you have a pretty good chance.

Not sure if UCI has legacy for siblings or legacy in general; probably not.

Yeah I mean it is competitive, I guess I’m just used to comparing it to Cal and LA where it is a lot harder to get into. Compared to any Cal State, it is a very tough school to get into.

^ I got rejected from Cal Poly SLO though…so maybe not there.

SLO is almost a UC so it does it’s own thing.

LOL UCI is pretty competitive now a days… It’ll be soon compared to SD and LA in no time

I got in last year with a 3.53 UCW GPA and a 31 ACT score, which is about a 2140 SAT score, some hundred community service hours and leadership in two clubs. But yeah, can I ask how you’re ranked in your own high school?

I’m definitely in the top 20% of the school since our school’s average gpa is around 3.7 and our SAT is around 2200-2300 so… Im gonna take the ACT and looking at a 33 realistically if that helps… Im so screwed for colleges… im depressed out of my mind -_-
