Can I get in?

I have a 3.3 w gpa (hopefully will be a little higher by the end of the year) and I have a 24 act. I have to take the act on Wednesday because I go to a high school in Illinois and I'm hoping that my score can go up to a least a 26. I have a few extra-curricular activities but I'm primarily involved in Japanese club. I'm president this year and I also was a Japanese honor society member this year. This year I'm also doing an independent study with my Japanese teacher as I have taken the highest level of Japanese offered in my high school. Next year I'm also planning to do student teaching with my Japanese and English teacher. I hope that I will stand out a little bit amongst the other applicants. Earlier this year I saw a copy of my transcript and my class ranking was 32%. I hope that by the end of the year I go a little bit higher.

My Japanese teacher is also an alumni of the University of Iowa and she's going to write me a recommendation letter.

Sorry this is so long! Thanks in advance to anyone who replies! :)

The University of Iowa uses a mathematical formula to determine admission, your ECs won’t make a difference.

Here is the link to the RAI calculator that can help you figure out if you make the cut. [College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Admission Requirements for First-Year Students - Requirements and Deadlines - Undergraduate Admissions - The University of Iowa](http://www.uiowa.edu/admissions/undergrad/requirements/rai-page.html)

If your GPA is weighted then you need to work on boosting that and your ACT. If it’s not weighted then I think that you have a good shot at being accepted.

My daughter is a freshman at UI and my son attends a suburban Chicago high school. According to our Naviance scattergram admission to UI has become more competitive in the past two years. What seemed like a sure thing for many of our students is now becoming a reach.

Good luck!

Okay, thank you so much! :)

I don’t mean to gravedig, but Chicago said that she was in Illinois, and the RAI is only for in-state students.

The RAI applies for in state and OOS – for Liberal Arts, for example, I believe in state is 245 and OOS is 255.
