If i missed anything please tell me, this is my first time doing one of these. I am also questionable about if I posted it in the right place....

Also can you recommend any other schools that would fit me academically, preferably private smallish school.

bummpinnnn…

No APs? While your score isn’t bad per se (1860) it’s a bit on the low end for Holy Cross’s SAT admits which ranges from 1810-2060. It has great academics but pretty hard to get in unless you boost your SAT a bit (just to be on the safe side)

Other private, small schools that are also really good are Occidental College (my uncle went there), Trinity University (i hear it’s a good school), and others that are pretty good where you’d be in a good range SAT-wise are Furman University, Union College, as well as a lot of others. I suggest though that you retake the SAT since your ECs are good as well as your rank and courses.

What if I don’t send in the SAT score since it isn’t required? Does NOT sending in scores hurt an applicant’s chances?

bummppp again! im so impatient haha

I think you have a shot at Holy Cross.
Don’t send the scores since it will not help you.
Few things that Holy Cross admission officers like to see are:

 1. Show your interest in the school. (Campus visit and have an interview). Follow up any correspondence.
 2. Write an exceptional essay.
 3. If financial aid is not an issue, apply as Early Decision. It will definitely boost your chance.

Here are some other Liberal Arts schools you might want to consider:
Bates College- SAT optional
Connecticut College- SAT optional
Franklin & Marshall College- SAT optional
Trinity College in Connecticut- Requires SAT test or any 2 SAT subject tests
Hamilton College- SAT, ACT, or combination of AP tests, SAT, or SAT subject tests.

One good news, Asian male applying to Liberal Arts Colleges usually have higher chance of getting in!

Good Luck!

Thank you. Your post is full of information Ive been looking around for. I really love everything about HC. I was wondering if competition here is cutthroat or not.

My daughter got accepted to Holy Cross last year and decided that was the place she wanted to be for the next four years.
So far, she liked everything about the school. She had made more than 100 friends in less than a month. Everyone is so nice and willing to help each other.
Academic is some what challenging, especially pre-med track. If you are not 100% sure that you want to go to medical school after graduation, I suggest you don’t apply to pre-med program or biology major because it will be harder for you to get in. You can always apply after your first semester. With a pre-med program, the school will pre-register all your classes including required Montserrat seminar, Calculus, Biology w/ Lab, and Chemistry w/ Lab. My daughter’s roommate is a pre-med major, but after 3 weeks of classes she decided to drop biology class because she thinks it’s too stressful.
My daughter plans to major in Economics. So far all the classes are manageable. She also work 5 hours a week and involved in couple of school activities. If you can manage your time well, you should be able to handle it.
Professors at Holy Cross are very helpful. My daughter goes to professor’s office hours at least once a week. They try very hard to help every student to succeed. Overall, if you like Holy Cross, definitely apply. Wish you best of luck!
BTW, we are Asians too!

Thanks again. I am almost positively sure I want to go to med school but totally unsure about what I want to major in. With this in mind is your D aware of any majors that are on the easier side of the difficulty spectrum at HC? (gpa wise) I happen to find a vast area of interest. ( I change what majors in my mind everyday) I do understand that the workload at this college is very high overall.

Bumppinnnnn…

I’d say you have a good shot of getting in. If you’re not confident in your test scores, then don’t send them. That’s the beauty of test-optional schools  I’m a bio/premed freshman and yes … It’s quite a workload. I’m taking bio lec + lab, chem lec + lab, calculus, and my Montserrat class. My schedule’s probably going to the be the same basically except it’s going to be bio 2, organic chemistry, and calc 2. Sigh

Do well on your essay as I think that was one of my strong points of getting accepted. I didn’t even tour the school or do an interview, yet I got in. Good luck man! :)

**“same basically (next semester) except …”

OP’s SAT math scores are at the HIGHER range of their accepted avg. Critical reading is within the median, but at lower end. I would send these scores (they usually are less focused on writing scores and yours are within 20pts. which is very close to median range anyway). I’d send them.

(Holy Cross 2011 accepted avg. 590-680 CR, 600-690 M, 600-690 W)

someone suggested Hamilton… bad advice as it is harder to get into by far than HC …
