Can I get in?

I have a 3.94 GPA, a 33 ACT, I'm in NHS, quizbowl, varsity volleyball and softball, a published editorial writer, and a member of a school board year-round schooling committee. I have over 70 hours of community service. I also show steers and hogs. What are my chances of getting into Cornell Engineering?

Questions:
What is your race/ethnicity? What is your class rank? How difficult are the courses you have taken in relation to your peers? What is your school’s history of getting people into Cornell? Have you taken any APs/ SAT IIs? Have you won any competitions?

For now, I am going to see you as a white female on top 10%. I would say you have a low-average chance.

A 3.94 with a 33 ACT female applying to engineering? Not a shoo-in but better than low-average I think.

Oh, forgot being female is a hook already in engineering. About average chance, since regular is a bit harder.

I’m 17th in my class of 185. I’m white. I take the hardest classes. Toughest in our school some say. I’m in 3 ap’s right now and taking subject tests in june. No one from my school even attempts to get into any school 100 miles outside of our area. I’ve wona few public speaking contests. Thanks!

Actually, i’m going back to my original point - if your school has a fair number of kids getting into Cornell every year, you have a fair chance. Otherwise, it is low.

You have about an average chance given your class rank, course load, GPA, and ACT score. About 50-50, maybe a little less. I don’t see any math/science interest and achievement in what you’ve said so far, which is necessary for Engineering.

Use this as a reference. RD is about 2-3 times as hard.

Im taking AP Biology and AP Chemistry. Im going to try and get into a math and science center for next year. I couldn’t before because im out of district but they accept senior. Would it help that I come from a tiny town in michigan? It’s no where near detroit and over half of last years grad class went to community college.

It will help a little bit, that geographic diversity.

Mmk thanks! So just wondering how you guys know all this stuff!?!

Personal connections/experience/common sense.

I see. Thanks! Do you think it would be worth applying ED?

Yes, very. Pretty certain you have a great chance in ED.

Good to know! Thank you very much!! :)

A female engineering student with your stats should be a very competitive candidate at Cornell. Still, it’s a numbers game and nothing is guaranteed. You should definately apply.
