Hi! My Parents say that I cant get into the University of Minnesota.
Do you think I even have a chance to get in? I have an act score of a 25 and a gpa of a 3.56
I am a junior currently taking AP physics and AP calc
I also play the violin and go to competitions and my violin teacher is a professor at the U of Minnesota
It’s ok to be undecided if it means you have several interests and aren’t quite sure where to focus yet. You do need a relatively specific plan by the time you apply because UMN admits to various colleges. So you don’t need to know your exact major, but you should better understand what college(s) best match your talents and interests.
Here are some links to get you started on your research. Also, be sure to read the UMTC forum on CC because there is a ton of invaluable advice and information from other parents and students.
In all honesty, no. If you look at the competitiveness this year, there are people that are getting waitlisted with a 3.8 Gpa and your ACT isn’t even near the average (at least 30). Not trying to pull you down but I got waitlisted a couple times before I got in and my stats were higher
@azontelli a lot depends on the college the applicant is applying to, as well as the specifics of each application. The links I provided earlier are pretty informative.
As a junior, you still have time, but you should do the following. Make sure your gpa this semester is high because it’s likely the last semester grades they will see and they like to see an uptrend. In addition, do practice books and try to get your ACT into the high 20s or higher if you can. If you’re able to do this, you should at least get into the U of MN and have a shot at the more competitive colleges like Carlson, CBS, or maybe even CSE. Good luck!
You definitely do have a chance. But, it really depends on your major(which school you apply for). Schools like CEHD and CLA are much easier to get in. Some will say that the average act is 30, 31, etc but that only applies to some of the schools. CEHD and CLA have averages of around 26-27.
