Rats, I thought that was insanely slow for a college. At least I can still get kind of close in the 5k.

whats ur times?

If your prs are that fast, you should be able to run around them consistently. And I was doing a bit of research on a roger from gulf coast high school and I couldn't find any results with you in them on Dyestat, or even on flrunners.com

And according to pasts in other forums, you are basing your SAT of 1560 on your PSATs. Your PSAT does not always accurately predict your SAT. I scored about 100 points higher on my PSATs than I did on my SAT

I can run about 16:20 to 16:30 for 5k when I am fit (haven't been healthy for an actual XC season since 9th grade so my race best is 18:10 :o), but I don't train in the offseason anymore. I only did track this year so I could put those tapps state titles on my college app. My 1600 is 4:42 and my 3200 is 10:08, which isn't the best I can do, but TAPPS isn't competitive at all. It is hard to push yourself when you win by 20+ seconds at the "state" meet.

The season best for the fourth fastest 5k guy at harvard was 15:49 and the third was like 15:39. I assume they recruit based on chances of improvement as well? I'm sure I could drop my time 30-40 seconds or so with training and everything.

EDIT: Heck, maybe I don't need to improve that much at all. The indoor track list is much more extensive and less impressive. The slowest guy on the team had a best of 4:55 and there were three that were over 4:30.

those are ok track times. Have you been to state competitions yet? How did you do there?

silver-its because roger isnt my real name, its my middle name-i use it on the web so people cant get personal information on me like that
Yah-those scores (1560) is what my PSAT predicts for me to score. I know they arent always great-bu they're the only thing I have to base them on right now
Do u know what the slowes guys 5K is on Harvard??

I have only done the the private schools state comp and I won that. I am ineligible to compete in public school districts, regionals, and state. My times are just mediocre in the public school realm, but with training I feel pretty certain I can run in the 4:20's and mid 15s by track season of my freshman year at college. I couldn't get anywhere at a big time running school like stanford or colorado, but Harvard's times aren't very fast.

these are recent times, too, so it's not like they were running these when they first got recruited, unless they haven't improved any. You're bests would make you the fastest 800 runner and near the top in the 1500. I think some of the indoor times are from walk-ons because they are pretty bad.

"My 5k should be around high 16's
My 800meter is around 1 58-2 00
and my mile is high 4 30's low 4 40's"

none of those times are ivy-level
what does it mean "should be around" -- try running it first.
Get that 5k to low 16s
800 to 1:55
mile to 4:20

keep up the hard work

Yeah the thing is I doubt that all of the runners on Harvard's team were recruited; a lot of them are walk-ons.

when i said 'should be' i meant right now-at the begining of summer. I hope to be around that fast (16 29 was my pr at the last race alst year).
So if i get my 800 down another 3-4 seconds in these next two years-do u think i would be under the 'recruited athlete' list? or would that not be spectacular enough

your junior year is the most important for recruiting. coaches will look at your junior year when they're recruiting you. by senior year, there isn't much you can do to make yourself a much more desirable athletic recruit--by the late fall, coaches have already submitted their lists to adcom.

do u think i would make this 'recruting list' if my 800 times was around 1 55 next year??

if you get to 1:55, I'm sure you'd make the list
