the comment above is related to the choate and andover comment. i didnt see the comment you sent after.

well thank you everyone for your comments. im sorry if i said anything offesive. i have to go now b/c i have midterms tommorow. ill talk to you tommrow. and once again im sorry if i said anything against you.

olivia, i said the error was
"" people with 99 SSATs and a perfect application can find their niche more at Choate or Hotchkiss than they can at AESDCH""

redundancy....you said can find their niche more at choate or hotchkiss than they can at andover, exeter sPS deer choate and hotchkiss...there u just repeated choate and hotchkiss lol

u know whats strange, my mom thinks im gonna get in (i know these schools are extremly competitive which is why i belive i wont get into any of them but its worth a try.)but the scary thing is that when ever she says that( VERY VERY rare) it come true. i hope it does. once again sorry. bye

i didn't get my turn.uhhhh...no way.leaving something out of the story.pppppppprrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeesssssssssstttttttiiiiiiggggggggggggeeeeeeeeeee is all that seems to matter. That undercurrent is ever present.

Aw, sorry Eel if I said anything offensive either. I hope your mother's words come true. :) GL on midterms ... I just got mine back today (91 French, 90 Science and English, 85 History, 80 Math).

Oops, I do realize I was being redundant. :) I'm so used to writing AESDCH now rather than AESD, because of course Choate and Hotchkiss should be a part of it. :D

lol just thought it was funny...my english teacher willl nail me if i make thatmistake..probably give me an F

isn't the motto "non sibi" not "non silibi"....

If the motto is non sibi, it must be the same as Andover's.

Bear, do you find it hard to maintain the same GPA at Hothckiss that you did at your previous school? I was reading Choate's website and it said that the average student has a 3.7 upon entering and is able to maintain that. But you were talking about a kid with a 2.5 getting into good schools, and I've read reports of students who had lower scores at Choate than they have at Brown, etc.

good schools meaning the like like USC, tufts, michigan, chicago, johns hopkins or Carnegie mellon etc , but to get into an ivy or stanford u need at least 3.2-3.3 to be in the running......unless you have hooks or connections

our average gpa at hotchkiss is around 3.0

bearcats -- It is rather shocking that you were not accepted EA to Cornell with your qualifications and legacy status. Just remember that undergraduate is the goal many have in mind now, but your graduate degree (if you get one as many do) carries more weight in your professional life. Good luck with your other applications!

but non silibi doesnt mean anything.
they are brother schools.. maybe they do have the same motto?

First, I want to say that if you are applying to get into a better college, DON'T!! The poster who said your chances are better from a crummy public school is correct.

At the top preps there are huge numbers of ivy and top LAC legacies. Real legacies. A sibling only helps if they are there now or if they gave millions. There were soooo many people in my Andover class that were legacies at multiple ivies I can't even tell you. I was among many as a double legacy to an ivy. There are also many, many recruited athletes as the athletic programs are super competitive at these schools. And they house some of the brightest URMs in the Country. Last but not least are the numerous development kids whose parents have millions to give. So when you see the 35% matric rate to ivies, consider who these kids are.

As for having a low SSAT, I think it's not unlike college. People without the grades and scores don't make the first cut. I think they are choosing the best violinist of those who make that cut. You could be an exception if you are truly a standout and your honors are exceptional. I have no way of knowing if they are, but Andover had kids ranking nationally.

As for swimming, maybe you'll get lucky and find a school that wants to bolster their team. My point is it is not a sport like hockey or football that brings out crowds and is important for school spirit.

Another problem I see in you as an applicant is showing interest. Living that close and not visiting is not a good thing. Alumni interviews can't help the way one with an adcom can. Demonstrated interest in the schools is key.

You are applying in the Asian pool to schools that are overwhelmed with Asian applicants from both here and abroad. There have been recent bestselling books set at Boarding schools in Asia, and wealthy Asians are applying in staggering numbers. They are your competition as are other NY applicants, also a huge group.

So that's the reality. You could get lucky. Your essays could blow them away. Your recs could make them ignore scores. It doesn't happen often though or the averages would not be what they are.

Good luck!

Wow, I highly doubt it.
Even if you had 99% SSAT, it would still be a stretch.
You sound pretty bratty to me too... like a kid who has been told they're great their whole life and doesn't really understand the big picture.
You don't seem to understand what boarding school is about.
Good luck at Yale!

"Even if you had 99% SSAT, it would still be a stretch."

Really? I don't think so..is it because he/she is asian? or what?

asian/NYC/violin/no art/lameee community service/public school when parents who can affford private/essays sound typical

just an opinion.. i think if she had a 99% ssat she could get in at 1 or 2 of the above. but lets be honest, adcoms can tell what an applicant is looking for, and it seems like she wants to use the schools for her naive ivy dreams. just an opinion.

"like a kid who has been told they're great their whole life and doesn't really understand the big picture."
most kids who apply to BS are...they usually are top of the top in their school...but once they get here, they understand they are just middle of the pack and struggling......

but i agree with blairt

first of all, im a guy.
second of all, there is nothin wrong with using a bs school to go to an ivy school. i go to school to learn, not for recreation,
what wrong with going to an ivy? you make it sound like its bad. third of all how is my community service lame??? may be i didnt explain it enough or properly, or you have a super amazing away of heelping the homeless. ill explain in the next poster

These folks are tough eell but have given you the cold hard facts.Wait and work on IVY prospects through your current path.good luck.

my parish is part of an organization called the midnight run.(go to their website if you want www.midnightrun.com) the midnight run is an oganization of approx. 150 chirches in school in the meterpolitian area( NY, NJ, CT) one friday a month we meet at 6pm to prepare food, toilettries, and clothes. after we are done, we go to the chapel to pray. after that, we load the supplies into church vans and go into the city(NYC, by van 30 min, car 20 min, this happens around 9pm). when we get to NYC, we are designated different locations by the organization and we go to the locations (apprx. 5 per run)when we get to these locations we usu. go around the block and supply food, toiletries, and clothes to homeless people. we usu. finish around 2am in the morning. when we are finisjed we go back to our church.

a majority of my interviewwers were in the city so they were deeply inpressed.
