can i get in????????????/

bearcats
I know that i am not great. but i know that i am a hard worker with strong determination.

I totally agree with Suze's post, but I'll amplify the interest part. I had a 96% SSAT, strong grades from a feeder school, athlete coaches were interested in. I was accepted to 2 schools (A & S) and waitlisted at Choate.

I clearly told SPS they were my first choice and visited twice. I visited and interviewed at Andover. Choate I took for granted. I'd gone to their summer program and had a great Choate teacher reference. He came after me to apply!! I know he spoke to admissions on my behalf. I had a great report from the summer. However, I didn't visit. I did an interview in my home town at a hotel with a teacher. Looking back I get it, it was clear it was my safety. Which was extremely stupid looking back!

i didnt specifically mean you... I was once this kid who was top of my school , think I was the best in the universe, think i m so cool coz i scored 98% on my SSAT, think I have the best ECS ...think I am so good at violin (ironically, asian)LOL... and stuff until i arrived at hotchkiss, I find myself struggling my first 2 years to get my way up.....I understand why a lot of people have the same idea that I used to have...

because.. everyone has worked at a homeless shelter or gathered boxes of toiletries for the troops in iraq or w/e.. it's really not an accomplishment.

what's wrong is your tunnel-minded vision. i bet you won't even consider going to an excellent school that's not IVY (as you are now with the great boarding schools.. you're so confident that you haven't even applied to a safety! i think that's amusing. i have 98% SSAT/4.0/awards/lots of sports/great art/unusual community service and an unusual life story and everything else but i'm applying to three safeties!). and YES, there is something wrong with USING something (boarding school) or someone (your sistter) to get into an IVY. grow up. the kids who go from BS to IVY are..well.. it's hard to say, becuse it's so mercurial these days.. kids w/ perfect SAT's and triple legacies are getting rejected (ask bearcats).

you are wayy too into yourself. maybe your parents have been patting you on the back your whole life, but whatever it is, it's going to hurt you in the long run. you're too interested in yourself to ever be able to see thebig picture.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=126481

those are kids who applied for EA to yale (which, you claim, would be easier for you.. even though you wonn't be able to when you aply in 2009) who have been rejected and deferred and are wayyyy ahead of you (by more than 3/4 years.. they were prob much more qualified when they were your age)...grow some humility.

are you crazy u make me laugh soo much. my whole family DESPISEs the fact that im applying ( except for andover and exeter from my mom, only her). they know all the schools b/c they meet students who attended them at Yale and Upenn and they said that they were stuck up and weird and all other sorts of stuff. however they said the only good thing that said about bs is that you learn good study habits due to large amounts of work. however im taking the chance to apply b/c i believe that i can learn more. and if u read the poster from b4 you would have known that if i dont get in, i plan to stay at my own school

blairT....
Look this kid is asking about some of the top BS, yes some people may not agree with the motivation etc... BUT
I have to give him an A for effort.. half the battle is "trying" I would much rather had a kid who shoots for something.. vs. some one who is doing it mindlessly.
Cut him some slack... and suggest a few things that might help him improve his chances

havent you ever heard of dreams and hopes?????????
is there ssomething wrong with that????

college admissions has been wierd, not only myself, i mean really, for amherst, we have this kid, double legacy, 1500 SATs old scale, honor roll, active donor, recruited by coach ----- REJECTED

thank you AliJ
and if you read some of the other posters, you would have noted that i stated that even though i attens anddont get into the college of my dreams, i will believe that the stuuf i learn now will be important for the rest of my life

"havent you ever heard of dreams and hopes?????????
is there ssomething wrong with that????"

nothing wrong with that, but we are just giving you a realistic view
Do you have chances? Of course.
Should you apply? Of course
WIll you get auto rejected? Hell no

however, should you get your hearts set on these top schools? No...thats what we are trying to get across

why do you want to/or alreday go to boardinf school for anyway. dont you have goals you would like to achieve inlife?

me???????????

bearcats, dont worry about my college yet, i think i know some secrets bout stuff like that that some people would die fore

"why do you want to/or alreday go to boardinf school for anyway. dont you have goals you would like to achieve inlife?"

who are u refering to?

nooo. the why boarding school was for blairT

Chill out, kid. You're so hostile. Bearcats and I (among others) are trying to give you a realistic view because it seems like that's not offerred to you at home.

STOP being so defensive. If this is a real wakeup call, it's for your own good!

Don't lie and say you're applying because you wish you could learn more. You already admitted to wanting to "use" the schools to get into an ivy.

first of all. i cant type correctly b/c i got a new laptop(pc to apple) and its different. second of all. YES i did say i wanted to use boarding school to go to any ivy, HOWEVER, do you thing that if i just get in ill just slack and let the name do the rest?!! that is so not what i am aming for. i am aiming to go to a bs to that i can use that knoledge i learn to go to an ivy. as bearcat said he was a top student b4 and now at Hkiss he says its hard. even though i get in i will have to work even harder to get in an ivy nut from the perspective of a boarding school, its easier to go to any ivy than from my public school

AAAHHH would ppl PLEEZ stop being soo rude???

let me assure you that it is one thing to offer advice and another to completely slam someone else's dreams of bs.

so what if eell45 is only doing this to get into bs? does it matter? heck, this is a free country, he can do whatever he wants. i wish him luck, and i wish everyone else here the best possible outcome in the admisisons process.

thank you sabregiel121
u know what lets just put aside WHY were applying
we all have different reasons and purposes weither wee like it or not.
