Can I get in?!

Listen, I'm sick of everyone beating around the bush when it comes to telling me whether or not I have a shot of getting into a college. I know every situation is different, but what do you think my chances are at Middlebury, considering the following qualifications and if I write an above-average essay?

1350 SAT, 95 GPA, Junior Class VP, CNY Varsity Lacrosse Player, 6 total APs

You might have a shot, but your SAT could use some work.

is the 1350 SAT critical reading+math?

yeah 1350 is math and CR

CR = 740
math = 610

your critical reading score is superb. just increase your math up to high 700s; and i think you'll be set. what about your writing score? you should also do some community service if you haven't, and take more leadership roles/do some summer stuff. other than that, you're academically a fit.

you've definitely got a chance! i think they really focus on the essay. definitely try to do an interview next year. i just got in this year, but i'm unable to attend for financial reasons. however, my sat scores were only 690 math, 640 verbal, and 710 writing. i was 8/283. i had a lot of extracurriculars, but i think i really excelled in my essays/interview. the admissions process is pretty arbitrary. the girl who is seventh in my class and had higher SAT scores also applied, but was rejected. if you haven't taken the ACTs already, you should definitely take them. the only test scores the middlebury admissions office actually saw for me was a 31 on my ACT and two 5's on my AP Calc and AP US History Exam. good luck! i honestly think middlebury cares more about the person than the test scores (something i definitely didn't see at all of the schools i applied to!)

Just remember that Middlebury's testing policy is that you can send either the SAT I, or 3 SAT IIs

I think you need a few more extra curriculars to show your "roundedness," to borrow an admissions term, but other than that, you definitely have a fair shot.

For what it's worth I was waitlisted for the class of 2011 with the following stats:

3.95UW GPA

4 in class of 415

2200SATs
Nat'l Merit Finalist
Four year varsity tennis player (2years all district)
wrote award winning play that was professionally directed and performed at a major univ theater dept
great well-rounded resume of awards,honors and community service
good interview

So if you can extrapolate anything from this info I would advise that for the class of 2008 it will be even tougher. Advise; choose your schools wisely.

p.s. I'm going to Wesleyan, Wes YES

Oh my goodness, I can't believe you were wait-listed with a resume like that! Now I'm really nervous...

just wondering ----- does Midd require interviews?

You should contact the lacrosse coach if you are interested in playing lacrosse and are recruitable. If you are indeed recruitable, and the coach wants you, you are in a great position to get in!

Interviews are not required, although all applicants are offered an alumni interview. You'd be wise to meet with the alumni interviewer, as it will demonstrate interest in the school.
