Can i get in?

How good of a chance do I have of getting into Penn State?

I have a 3.63 unweighted GPA and a 3.84 weighted GPA. In high school, I've had mostly A's. I am a junior and I took 6 honors courses this year (A's and B's) and I'll be taking 5 APs next year. My ACT score in April was a 27, and I'm waiting for the June score. Im also from New Jersey.

Here are my extracurriculars:

(Total: 220 hrs community service)

-Volunteered at Sarnoff Corporation, a research center for scientists and engineers (10, 11, 12)
-Volunteer at West Windsor Library (9)
-Volunteered in a 3rd world country at a non-profit organization helping the underprivileged (9, 10)
-Red Cross Club volunteer (9, 10)
-Worked (paying job) for a library (10)
-Indoor Track (11, 12)
-Participated in a War of the Worlds Play-Acting (10)

I've also visited the U-Park campus and Berks, as well as stayed in touch with some of the faculty.

They don't look at EC's. Only your test scores and GPA.

You're in. :)

You have a very good chance.

your grades are great, just apply early. my son had a 3.6 and 1290 and he got into UP or Liberal Arts. we live in NJ too, Lawrenceville and quite a few kids got in from our district. They only look at your GPA and SAT or ACT scores.

what's the min ACT/SAT scores i need to get if i have a 3.925 GPA? and i still need to take the tests on october before apply, will it be too late to apply in november?

There is really no minimum. With a 3.925 gpa, I would highly suggest getting 1100+ or 1150+ to be safe.

do they accept ACT score?

Yes, they do accept ACT scores. For the second link, convert your ACT score to the SAT equivalent to get an idea of your admission prospects.

You are in; PSU is not a hard school to get into.

Yes, the main campus is very hard to get into. University Park rejects a lot of people. You are probably one of these bitter people that didn't get accepted and goes around on these threads putting down all the schools that you got rejected from. Realm, if we want to know about Georgia we will ask you. Why don't you leave answering the questions about Penn State University Park to people that actually know what the they are talking about?

^^^ ouch, you sound bitter. you don't need to sound so offended from other people's statements, geez!
Penn State admissions really are driven by numbers mostly akhan, so I'm pretty sure you'll get in. Apply early though, because as time goes on, admissions gets more competitive since they do have rolling admissions.

And psp, too late to apply in november? Nonsense! With a competitive GPA like yours, as long as you get a good SAT score you'll most likely get in, whether you applied in november or january. Heck, I almost forgot to even apply until january, and I still got in. Too bad they don't have good financial aid :(

I only get offended by blatant stupidity that's smeared across the Penn State thread. Geez.;)

Do I have a chance at engineering with a 3.4 and a 2180 SAT?

@jec7483: ...wow, what's up with the tone? I actually got accepted to PSU's Smeal and it was one of my favorite universities out there so I know what I am talking up. And why would you bring up Georgia to this conversation?

@RealM, I only brought a tone because of the inaccuracy of your statement. Getting accepted and having it as one of your "favorite universities out there" does not mean you know what you're talking about. We have enough people that like the school. I am not sure how you say that Penn State University Park is easy to get into, considering that it sounds like you decided on GT. Penn State University Park (%54.9) has a lower acceptance rate than GT(%70.1). College acceptance rates: How many get in? - USATODAY.com . I even tried to find a lower rate for GT, and the best I could find was (%69) Georgia Institute of Technology Admissions Profiles. GT does not evoke some awe with its admission standards. So, if by "easy to get into" you mean having a lower acceptance rate than Michigan, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, and Villanova, that's fine. I am not saying that GT is a bad school, but we were discussing difficulty of admission. I am just not sure what you consider "hard", just the Ivy League? But since YOU got in, especially YOU, I guess an individual is a pretty representative sample size and you can continue on spreading inaccurate beliefs and giving people a false sense of security with their application.
