I'm a rising junior in high school, so I haven't taken SAT/ACT/etc. etc. Let's just say I do good enough on those tests. Here are my other stats:

GPA:
-Freshman: 4.2, ranked 2/473
-Sophomore: 4.4, ranked 7/473
-Junior & Senior: I will be taking all AP's, so my ranking should go up a lot.

EC:
-Interact(board member) & Octagon club since freshman year. (4 years by end of HS)
-running for Octagon Pres/VP (let's just say I a spot)
-Habitat for Humanity 1 year
-Ambassadors 1 year so far(2 years by end of HS). I am running for President, (let's say I get the spot..)
-Relay for life (2 years by end of HS)
-Starting my own medical club
-JV Track 2 years
-Varsity Cross-Country 1 year
-piano since 4 years old
-cello since 11 years old
-fluent in English, Spanish, and Chinese
-volunteer at hospitals, disabled kids' camps, YMCA
-shadowed my aunts/uncles in their medical facilities (pharmacy, gynecologist, etc.) in asia

Awards:
-NSHSS

You have good ECs. It’s hard to judge the academic aspects of your application without knowing your unweighted GPA, rigor of coursework freshman and sophomore year, SAT/ACT, Subject Tests scores, state, or race.

Maybe you can update your information. Good luck.

(I almost feel like I have a conflict chancing people who are rising juniors now. I want to help people, but not at my expense!)

What are Interact, Octagon, and Ambassadors?

Do you play either of your instruments in something like All-State or a youth symphony? Why are you starting your own medical club? What is the purpose, other than to show that you started a club?

I really don’t mean to insult you–I’m sure you are a real person with depth. But your self-description comes across to me as the stereotypical Asian pre-med who studies hard because everyone like you does, rather than because you have a burning intellectual passion for anything, and plays an instrument because everyone else like you does, rather than out of any particular love of music, and shadows the doctor relatives, because everyone in your family marches in lockstep to med school, rather than because you have a real passion for medicine.

You need to bring yourself to life in the reader’s mind, and show your individuality.

And BTW, it’s “well enough.” :)

D’s prep school Naviance data has Dartmouth admissions scatter shot across all GPA/SAT combination. Neither a cut off or trend was evident. The only consistency was that waitlists were scatter shot all over the place a well and NOBODY ever was admitted from the waitlist.

Everything looks good so far, but nothing stands out (it’s impossible to chance without standardized tests). You definitely shouldn’t put NSHSS on your apps… college adcoms will probably roll their eyes (I think the minimum GPA to be accepted was a 2.5 or something, even though their invitations say otherwise). Good luck and don’t get too stressed out for at least another year…
