Yes, if you improve those SAT IIs. 660 is really not good enough.

I think you have more than a solid shot. Send just the ACT if you can and no SAT scores.

Slipper,

The class of 2010 requires the following

http://www.dartmouth.edu/apply/admissions/testing.html

All applicants to Dartmouth, including those who apply from foreign countries, are required to take the following:

Either the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I) or the examination of the American College Testing Program (ACT).

Please Note: Students may submit scores from either the old SAT I or the new SAT I (with writing). Similarly, students may submit scores from either the regular ACT (if taken prior to February 2005) or from the ACT with writing (if taken in February 2005 or after).

Any two SAT II Subject Tests.

The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is strongly encouraged for foreign students for whom English is not the principal language of instruction and for non-native speakers of English. TOEFL is given at centers throughout the world and must be taken early enough so that the results are reported to Dartmouth by January of the year of intended entrance.

So even sending the ACT, student will still have to send SAT II scores.

I don't think your "safeties" are really safe for you. Bucknell, Rochester and Richmond are reasonably difficult schools to get into. You might want to add on an even less selective school so you make sure you have somewhere to go.

Union i'm in at no doubt bc my dad is on the board. and bucknell i have a VERY good connection.

Right, but nevertheless--Dartmouth would take the higher of his two SAT and ACT scores; so, obviously, his ACT score would be considered over his SAT.

haha i'm a girl

william and mary is not a match for any out of state female but your achievements and credentials are impressive. good luck!

you're definitely in the ballpark. i think you have the right strategy- work on your sat 2's. You're definitely going to a reach or a match- i'll gurantee you that, no problem. And I disagree with Sean- you'll be fine with your safeties. You're alright, don't worry.

You're ACT is on the money, but maybe just get your SAT II's a bit higher.

660 SATII is not the end of the world; definitely try to improve it, preferably above 700, but I got in with a 670 Physics, and I'm not any kind of amazing athlete/legacy/Intel competition winner/all-around genius. There are no guarantees in any Ivy- or Ivy-level admissions process, but that said, I think you have more than a shot ;)

chris cuber, can u post yur scores and grades in HS + ECs? im wondering how i fare compared to you

mine:
wGPA: 4.0
Rank: 32/650
SAT1 - 790 math, 720 verbal, 680 writing
SAT2 - 760 chemistry, 750 math, 740 physics
Strong Courses: Honors English grade 9, Honors Biology, Honors Earth and Space Science (sort of like geology and astronomy combined), Honors Algebra 2, Honors Pre-calculus with Trig, AP Calculus, AP Calculus 2, AP Chemistry 2, Honors Physics, AP Bio 2, Honors Biochemistry.

Note*** haven't received scores on APs yet, but i feel i got at least a 4 on every one, most likely 5s

ECs: Key Club, JV Lacrosse Captain (650 kids in each grade, sports teams are highly selective due to large pool of students and small number of spots to fill, so still no Varsity), Tudoring neighbors, Worked since end of Freshman year roughly 25 hours per week (3 different jobs with no breaks between them), National Honor Society

UW GPA: 4.0
Rank 1/460ish at non-competitive public HS (the vast majority of our college-bound grads go to U of Toledo, BGSU, or OSU)
ACT 33, SAT 800M 730V, SATII 800 MIIC, 720/740 Writing, 670 Physics
Most difficult course load available, both AP classes offered at school, results of AP tests pending
EC's:
Band. Marching, symphonic, jazz, pep, pit orchestra, local youth orchestra, 1st chair horn in two regional honor ensembles senior year, I ratings in Solo & Ensemble
German Hon. and Math Hon. prez, Cross-country freshman year
NHS, Science club, quiz bowl, german exchange
Toledo Blade student of the week, Rensselaer medalist, Nat. Merit commended, lots of local/school awards
Minimal (1 summer) employment, a little volunteer work at homeless shelter and tutoring elementary school kids

tj, you seem to have tenatively solid grades/scores, though you should try to get your writing 700+. Being valedictorian or 2250+ SAT seems to earn someone brownie points with admissions though. Your EC's seem a bit weak, though compared to some on these boards, I'm certainly not one to talk. I'd suggest putting something in your app (if this is the case) about how working has limited your ability to be involved in EC's, has taught you responsibility, etc. What grade are you in?

I am going to be a senior. My school is fairly competitive-- we are ranked I think around 7th in the state academically and for standardized testing. I knew I didn't have enough EC's but its a lot harder to make sports teams at my school because of the amount of students and our schools relatively high reputation for sports teams. I do not know how to play an instrument and therefore had no place in band or orchestra. I knew it would be a problem so I decided to get a job after freshman year so as to make up for it. Plus, even if I had wanted to do more I could not because I have to pay for car insurance which is incredibly steep for a 17 year old male driving a red SUV '04. With the amount of hours I put in each week it is a wonder I am able to play lacrosse at all.

And about the writing grade, if that is the only thing that is going to get me into an IV league school I think I'll pass. I have taken the SAT 1 four times this year plus the SAT 2, in order to replace that score I would have to retake the whole entire test and I am just not willing to do that. With breaks and the proctor speaking between sections the new SAT takes roughly 4.5 hours to complete. Besides, I had been told that many schools aren't worrying about that score as much this year because of the transition between forms. Is that incorrect? Also, my UW GPA is around 3.7.
