I want want to use my fight against Leukemia as the basis for my essay. If I do this effectively and my recs are good, what are my chances at getting accepted? Thanks in advance to whoever answers my question!

no, your chances are nonexistant. I wouldn't even bother applying honestly.

Like everyone else asking about whether you can get in or not, I think you're asking the wrong question.

Truth is, you know that you CAN get in but you want to know HOW. You've done stuff that's obviously impressive and you've felt good doing it. Continue along the same path and get the good grades, do the things that make you passionate.

Yes, you can get into JHU with your resume.

So this is kind of pointless but I was just wondering...
I applied to Hopkins as a biology major (if I had to do it again, I'd apply as something else!!) for regular admissions in 2002 (would have entered Fall 2003)

-1460 (old SAT back then :-)!)
-10/100, small, noncompetitive HS, but I took all the APs I could and one AP online
-93/100% grading scale (we didn't have a 4.0 scale)
-tons of volunteering, hospital, food bank, & church
-TONS of leadership, including regional offices, student council president
-state & local writing awards
-pretty good essay

So my question is what went wrong? The fact that my grades weren't the best, at a noncompetitive school, and I wasn't 1st in my class? (I really didn't apply myself in high school, I could probably have been higher than 10)? Or the fact that I probably was pretty similar, and less impressive, than other applicants? From what I have learned, EVERYONE has tons of volunteering, leadership positions, & awards...

Haha I'm very happy at the college I chose, but I guess my ego is still a little sore from the rejection :-)...

You're on the borderline as far as grades and scores, so its kind of a crapshoot, theres a lot of students like you and they can't accept all of them. I didnt' have any leadership positions, and I only had one volunteer job, and I got in, so I'm not sure if theres a simple formula. Perhaps if your application had been reviewed by a different person or looked at at a different time, the outcome would be different.
