3. AP Biology
4. AP Physics C
5. H British Literature
6. Economics (I wish my school offered AP.)

-school doesn't offer honors classes, but mentions "due to the rigorous curriculum of the school, no classes are designated as honors" in school description.

My only B's have been graphic design freshman year, AP Gov last year(will a 5 on the exam atone for this), and a mandatory composition class at our school this summer? I got straight A's junior year.

-will mention Math, Economics, and Chemistry respectively as my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice majors. I want to be an investment banker or hedge fund manager when I grow up.

-LOTS of community service projects
-raised money for inner-city kids to buy scout uniforms

-I'm almost certain my PSAT score will qualify me for semifinalist standing in the NMS search. I didn't fill out Hispanic in the ethnicity section (didn't know about it at the time), so I wont get National Hispanic Recognition Program Honors.

Recommendations: I know several teachers at my school who like me and will probably write well about me.
Essay: 1) talk about high adventure programs in Boy Scouts
2) talk about how certain adversity in a trumpet competition didn't kill my trumpet passions.

aplly and you will find out

How well can you drive a batmobile? Only then will you know your true chance for admission at the great rice university.

Assuming you can drive a batmobile you are a competitive applicant. Apply and see. We can’t tell if you can get in, only the admission office can tell you that.

ps: tell us more about your trumpet adversity please.

hahahahahahahahaha

You guys are weird!

Getting accepted to Stanford and the Ivies will be difficult. They are reaches for most qualified applicants. Your EC’s and GPA are excellent but your current SAT score is a little low for these schools, with the possible exception being Cornell. I think your chances at Cornell are pretty good. You have a very good shot at Rice. Make sure you do a school visit or college fair in your local region and interview either at the school or with an alum locally. You need to “show them some love” if you want them to show you some back and accept you! Cornell and Rice are on completely different ends of the spectrum. Big school vs. small school. 20K students v 5K students including grads. Rural v more Urban. I’d be interested in seeing what other schools you have on your list besides the HYPS’s and Rice. There are a ton of great Ivy-caliber schools such as Duke and WashU, just to name two of them. Good luck.

yes, because Rice is that much easier to get into?? I think you are placing these Ivies on a pedestal…

@jshain. I’m trying to get at least a 2300 superscored when I retake this October or November.

just apply. No one can tell you anything that means a damn except the admissions department.

good luck!

Ant, I think you are probably right. Why don’t you recommend to the administrator to remove the “What are my chances” from the home page?

or how about we leave it for those who think they know the answer while we can try to help people here with stuff that, in my opinion, is based on fact and experience

do you want to dissuade someone from applying?

I would say that you have a decent chance at all of these schools, but they are sort of unpredictable. I would recommend applying to 2-3 safety schools too.

do you want to dissuade someone from applying?

Absolutely not, but I absolutely think you want to dissuade my “freedom of speech”. You sound a little pompous and arrogant and I also suspect somewhat bitter. Perhaps you applied to an Ivy school and were rejected, before accepting/attending Rice? It probably ended up working out well for you-- at least I truly hope so. I also hope my son gets accepted there and that he attends. I know that it is an extremely top-notch school and that it won’t be easy for him to get accepted. And yes, I think it probably is easier to get into Rice than Stanford or HYP and perhaps slightly easier than BDP (depending on major)…

didnt know my opinion violated the First Amendment. sorry

You can go ahead and say what you want. You arent an admissions officer. pure and simple. All I want to do is add a disclaimer, that anything any of us say is pure speculation and carries no weight from a university standpoint whatsoever.

You should apply.

Duly noted and hopefully a given that chance posters know this already… Take care!

I think that it’s a near match. Your math score is great.

what’s BDP?

I’m not sure really; my best guess is Brown, Dartmouth, University of Pennsylvania.

I’ve never heard that acronym used before though.
