I was wondering with a 3.7 gpa and a 30 on the ACT could I get into Brown or Stanford? I have also taken 8 AP or honors classes and am currently taking four this year. I would just like to know your opinions on the matter whether it is even worth applying. Thank you in advance :)

Your GPA and ACT score would probably put you in the lower 50%. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply, but your chances aren’t so outstanding.

Brown and Stanford are about a lot more than GPA/SAT and though you’re in the bottom percentiles, your best shot is if there is something really unique or special about you to write about. ECs are also very important. Look at old Decision threads and you’ll see how competitive those schools are, but don’t be discouraged from applying and make sure to show if you are unique. best of luck

Just because they care about a lot more than stats doesn’t mean they will settle for less (assuming you’re unhooked–are you a URM or recruitable athlete?). This doesn’t mean that your chances of admission are 0, but unless you come from a competitive prep school and have a higher rank than your GPA suggests, or are compelling in some other way (published author, really into some obscure subject and have lots of awards, that kind of thing), you may be better off saving your application fee.

^Well yes. I just meant that there are many more factors to admissions and as s/he’s shown us few here, s/he could be hooked in some way or something which would mean s/he has a chance. Sorry if I said that wrong

If you are black or Indian, then you are in. If not, extremely unlikely.

^Ha ha. I read Indian and I thought, “What!!! I thought they were ORM…”, and then I realized that you meant Native American kind of Indian.

I should go get some sleep…
