How is my chance of being accepted to this university? And do I stand a chance of getting financial aid? My parents can afford only $25000 per year

Yes, you will get in, and I think you have a shot at a scholarship. Try applying to honors. Honors dorms are 9475389453x better than the others.

Can I really have a shot at a scholarship? You know, because I am an international student

Oh…
I didn’t consider that o.O
No clue. Might as well try?

you have a great shot at getting in. mason is known for their international students, so it’s a big possibility that you could in their honors program with a scholarship.

Any insight on the commuter reputation of GMU? We are from OOS and wouldn’t want the school to empty out on weekends.

^To be honest, it is kind of empty on the weekends. People go out to DC/Home/sleep in unlike me?/whatever. Most of the people I know stay during the weekend, though.

rowirth - my son is a freshman - OOS. He loves Mason. While some students go home, the majority of students who live on campus do stay. If you have any specific questions, I’d be happy to answer them.

i just went on a gmu tour this past saturday. one huge misconception about mason is that it’s a ghost-town on the weekends and that it’s a commuter school. WRONG. people are always on campus, over 70% of their undergrad population lives in the on campus housing and there’s always different events going on throughout the weekend, so no…it’s not a commuter school.

70% of freshmen stay on-campus housing. 25% of undergraduate class stay on-campus housing. Basically, you have 5,000 people living on campus who you can hang out with.

BSCS - I believe there are over 7,000 undergraduate students living on campus. More dorms are being built every year. George Mason is working hard to shed it’s commuter school image.

The stats I read are from 2010. With that being said, there are dorms being built every year. The article might be quoting numbers from the end of last year. Either way, 5000-7000 students living on campus is greater than the total of undergraduates at some smaller schools like Longwood. It would be pretty sad if you cannot make friends with someone from all of those dorms. I spend most of my time studying, going to the gym, library, and EC’s. Not much time for parties if you are trying to graduate with honors. I will party hard once I get my degree.

Currently there are 5,000 students living on campus but I believe by next Fall there will be 7,000 students. I attend Mason and recently went on a tour with my boyfriend who is considering transferring here and that is the information they provided us.
