i think i have a very good excuse for having terrible grades in freshman and sophmore year of high school but in junior year and senior year i had straight A's and i have a sat score of 2000 but i have very few extracurricular activities. i was told that with my grades i have no choice but to do two years at a community college then i can transfer to a university but i REALLY don't want to do that. all i want to do is to go go straight to a 4 year university. i was really depressed when i found out that i had to go to a community college. i want to go to pace university which i heard was not very selective or competitive and they have a high acceptance rate. do i have a chance of getting into pace or any other four year college maybe if i write an excellent essay and have a good excuse for my bad grades? please tell me that theres hope that i don't have to go to a community college.

You can make it into a 4 year if you really actually have a good excuse for those bad grades. Examples can be: death in the family, serious illness that affected your working abilities, etc. If your reason was your lazy or you didn’t care about school, thats not a reason, thats laziness.
You would be better off in the College Search and Selection forum. This one is just guessing games among HS kids. Can’t you see that even the person who answered you wants your valuable opinion on his ‘chances’? That’s how little value this forum is.

First you should be discussing this with your guidance counselor. Second you should say if your family can pay for Pace. Third you should be looking at other options. Post in one of the main forums and get some opinions. Give as many details as you can.

There is a parent posting in the Parents forum on her Calif. kid with 2.5 gpa and 2100 SAT getting some good results and evem into Engineering programs. He is doing some grade replacement, have you replaced any of those F’s? He has mostly state colleges but also a private.

Maybe! You’ll never know unless you try!

First, there’s a lot of different colleges, not just community college and Pace - BTW rather than Pace, CUNYs would be better (same academic quality, less expensive).
Lots of 4-year colleges will admit you. The issue is: can you pay?
What’s your budget?
Can you retake some of the classes where you got F’s?

Going to a non competitive university wouldn’t be much different, in terms of education, than a CC except for the higher price.
